I'm not saying he isn't a good coach and our form when he left was excellent. However, everyone only remembers those 14 games. The equivalent to the 3rd of a season with a long rest at halfway.
Everyone/ Not you obviously!
The previous two years included long barron runs, not scoring, 1 home win in a calendar year and 6 defeats in a row. He was given the patience and opportunity to nagivated through those periods including from the fans. It was hardly all roses.
Yes, that was the plan, the way the club was run by TB and PB - and it worked. It was just such a shame his head was turned by money and (he hoped) greater glory.

I can understand his feelings for United. I can’t really believe he’s in the running. You assume they must have indicated he’s in with a good chance.

We know anyone we employ probably sees the club as a stepping stone but for it to be so obvious from the start makes me uneasy. If we can land someone else with similar potential - or better - I think I’d probably prefer it now. Every time we win a couple of games, this guy would be linked with a move.

Of course, being interviewed isn’t the same as being offered the opportunity. Who knows how it went and whether we’re still interested at this point.
Still think we'll end up with Russell Martin (if saints lose tomorrow) or Liam Rosenior unless of course, Tony pulls another unknown out the hat!
That would be so depressing.

Thanks for posting.

I think he’d have significantly more here, as despite your far superior history, at this moment in time, Ipswich are some distance behind Brighton in PL terms (obviously I’m biased).

I guess the question for McKenna is that if Ipswich go down next season, would he have missed his chance, as his stock will drop somewhat, and arguably he could be considered to have failed at the top level (albeit with an inferior squad).

Brighton never play their hand publicly, and it’s very possible that we’re not even interested despite what the papers and Sky said…… I mean nobody reported RdZ.

Re Sarmiento……. Of course for a price 😉😃

Good luck - there’s a big part of me that hopes McKenna does give it a go at Ipswich.
Will his stock drop if they get relegated? Kompany to Bayern, Rob Edwards still well thought of as well

I've just been reading about Jagoba Arrasate, who was Pervis Estupinan's coach at Osasuna. He'd be my choice as an unlikely selection. He plays a high pressure style, possession with purpose and loathes passing for the sake of it. More akin to Jürgen Klopp's style. A refreshing change from our last two managers who at times played side to side a bit to often.
Joining Mallorca isn't he? Definitely leaving Osasuna for another club.

It’s also a bit odd to forget that he had no injuries and the best midfield partnership in the division
Yep. At the start of RDZ that was deffo the case. Potter nurtured caicedo and alexis and was just getting the rewards. Rdz came in and carried on his good work and had an injury free ride until April.

When I say everyone, I basically mean the Potter IN brigade, whose main argument is he that left us in 4th after 6 games and ended the previous season strongly! They seem particularly incapable of zooming out beyond those 14 games.

He was clearly tapped up and he acted like a snake by having behind the back discussions prior to Chelsea asking permission to approach. Its highly unlikely that even Chelsea can hire an employed manager and literally ALL a club's coaching staff within a day or two of asking for permission. This is evident by time passing between Poch and his successor currently.

When I say everyone, I basically mean the Potter OUT brigade who seem incapable of zooming out beyond the 14 game winless run!

Which proves my point - the use of 'everyone' is completely inappropriate.

FWIW I was never in the Potter OUT brigade. I was frustrated at times but never OUT.

You do fail to mention the 1 home win in a calendar year, 6 defeats in a row or maybe the complete lack of goals. He even managed coach Chelsea into a team that couldn't hit a barn door. Potter is the XG king.

It depends. Based on our budget, income comparative to the teams above us in the league, and relative ambitions based on previous league finishes/competitions won, where do you expect us to be?
The thing is, the whole set up is designed to beat the income / cash in bank trap.

We’ve done Europe once. We should be aiming for it every season, though, of course, we won’t always succeed

Here’s the thing though - I think we ARE aiming for it every season. Up until our terrible run of injuries and disappointing second half of the season, we were in the running to reach Europe again. I don’t buy this narrative that we somehow forfeited our attempt at Europe again because we didn’t strengthen in January.

The problem is everyone else is aiming for it too, mostly clubs with much bigger budgets, attendances, incomes, resources and expectations.

Thankfully, looks like Burnley are keen on him.
Good for him. He was never seriously going to be considered for us, regardless of what the Media and the flip floppers on this thread say. Its at least one job too soon. I reckon he's onto a good thing with Burnley. They want to play the way he does, the squad is set up to suit it and the club wealthy. Say what you want about their fans but Liam can do good things there, no less than he deserves after the pretty rough decisions he's been on the receiving end of since his managerial career took off.

Steve Coppell had been close to a couple of larger jobs before we appointed him, and moved onto Reading, then a much more attractive prospect, as soon as they showed interest.
Coppell was surprised that Dick Knight didn’t fight to keep him
we just wanted the compensation money as the club needed every penny it could get

Tony Bloom will be a lot more interested in what Graham Potter did with his squad in his final few years than what he did with Chris squad in his first few years.
Some people expect Tony Bloom to be stuck in 2020 just because they are, but I imagine he has a different view of what Potter achieved in his years with us. Which is why we can't rule out GP.
The main reason everyone is talking about GP despite not many wanting him back, is that they deep down believe/know that Mr Bloom probably doesn't share their emotions and opinions. The same way people spent the spring repeating Roberto won't get sacked while deep down knowing Mr Bloom would tell him to pack his bags and f*** off.
