I'm 100% sure TB will have anticipated Poch and Ten Haag leaving. Ten Haag's days have been numbered ever since Ratcliffe took over (and probably before that). Poch's statements over the previous few weeks were pretty clear indications he'd had enough. I think we'd be under-estimating our leader's intelligence if we think this has all come as a surprise.
Alright then let me put it this way. I don’t think TB expected Man U and Chelsea to be shopping in the same shop as us.

Well, if we ARE interested in McKenna, you wouldn't have to be a genius to think that Man Utd and Chelsea would also be interested - he coached Man Utd for 6 years, and Chelsea's hierarchy have already shown they target young progressive coaches. Maybe you're right, but I honestly believe - given what we know of the way TB works - that he would have factored this into his thinking.

Regardless of the links I think it’s safe to assume that TB didn’t expect Man U or Chelsea to be targeting a manager from the championship. They’ve don’t normally do that.

Don’t think TB anticipated Man U or Chelsea playing manager merry go round at the same time as us.

Given they are a d we can’t compete with them we should just move on to other targets. Who that might be I have no idea. Anyone but potter though.
50% correct, Ten Hag has been a dead man walking for months

I'm answering points put to me by other posters. That's how message boards work.

I've said 9th was a great achievement back when he did it and, actually, today. But he had the midfield and defenders to do it and may have underachieved, given that seven game run that included the worst performance seen since Hughton's team played Bournemouth, where we managed to lose 3-0 at home to a woeful Burnley.

No point airbrushing this out when we're talking about the next head coach, because the risk is we get that, or worse, again. It's Potter taking us down I'm worried about.
Imagine RDZ with a midfield of
Mac, Moises, Biss, Mwepu and a Trossard who wanted to play for us, let’s add Cucurella, Lamptey & Veltman and RDZ also getting a tune out of March. We would be heading to Europe not go on a 15 game not winning streak and a long losing run. The best Potter could do was 9th FFS. Potter fans are in a world of their own.

I will say it again, One should not let personal feelings get in the way of professional judgements.
Sure GP had ambition and self belief enough to uproot all of his staff. I am confident that he was promised time. Could be said he was naive enough to believe it.
He got his fingers and toes well and truly burnt.
Could be that experience will send him on a "Gian Piero Gasperini" journey and he will not make that mistake again.
Could be that most fans expressing a wish not to see GP back at the Amex is based on football intelligence and how we have developed since he left and nothing to do with harbouring grudges and personal ‘feelings’.

Yes, GP had us finish in 9th - we were only 4th at 6 games in because we start each season in the top 3 or 4 places - as Potter said at the same juncture, the previous season when we were then 6th, let’s see where we are at the end of October” . And De Zerbi had us 6th with a similar team and qualified us for Europe.

Do people honestly think that without Caicedo, McCallister, Solly March or a fit LB for half the season, competing in Europe and the injuries we had this season, that Potter would have got a 9th place finish again (or higher) this season? I don’t. I think he could even have struggled to keep us out of the relegation zone.

Yep, injuries helped kill this season, even the club hierarchy has pointedly stated this as having a major impact.
Indeed. Paul Barber said at Seagulls over London recently that:

”(W)e played for a lot of the season with 11 or 12 injuries. Some had longer recovery periods than we’d hoped for. If we’d known how long players would be out, we may have acted differently in the January window, but you also had to balance that with the potential to have a bloated squad once players were fit. We have already invested in bringing in two top medical staff to upgrade our team for next season alongside our current personnel.”

EDIT
Sorry, off topic - I Thought this was the Potter in/out thread - getting very confused with so many threads talking about Potter

I don’t think one single fan wants to see him back at The Goldstone, not even in Nando’s 😂

I probably shouldn't jump on this being an Ipswich fan but....

The feeling at the club is that McKenna isn't leaving (apart from odd twitter posters)- the messages before the end of season and post have been about continuing the journey with Ipswich and at the moment our major shareholder is over for discussions. This happened last year and ended with a new contract for him.
Manchester United is a curve ball but that is too much of a toxic place for him, likewise Chelsea. He is untested in management so is a massive risk for those two to take him at the moment.

As for Brighton - personally I don't think it offers much more than what he has at the moment as a complete package. At the moment he has complete control over facilities and development and player recruitment and retention and as much money as he wants (and as regulations allow).

Much of what is circulating is social medial and unfounded. Mark Ashton came out the other day and said not to believe social medial or anything until it came from the club.

I get we wont keep him for ever, but the current feeling is he'll stick a season with us. He signed a new contract last season without the guarantee of PL football so can't see that changing. Whatever he is being offered will match most clubs.

I could be wrong, but our major shareholder from America wouldnt be over if McKenna had said hell no, I'm not staying...

Let's see what happens - but whatever happens can we keep Sarmiento?

I actually think Potter would have performed better than De Zerbi this season. Finding solutions and dealing with squad rotation and adapting was much more a Potter skill. I doubt the injury list would have been as high as well.

I think you’d rather we got relegated than have him back
Not relegated, but I’d seriously lose faith in the entire project that the club are attempting to build if Potter returns. It’s a ridiculous series of events which show no progress, a complete and abject failure to build on the best season in our history while being the most profitable club in the world .

Just like January, the myth that Bloom (and Barber) always get it right looks pretty exposed right now.

Looks an absolute howler to lose one of the most highly rated managers in the world right now
They’ve seen him with a full squad I just don’t get it. I have a theory Europe wasn’t meant to happen this early. The fan base is now full of expectations the manager wanted to push on for more success and it didn’t suit Bloom & Barber to make the investment to push on in the manor RDZ wanted to.
So what’s the plan now hover around mid table?

I will be very surprised to see Potter back here, do I want him...probably not over what we could have and if that was to be a Rosenior or a Martin then I would get behind him and the Team. GP doesn't become a shit coach over night and the time away will make him come back an even better coach imo. Kin ell, there must be some short sighted people on here if until he followed the money to Chelsea thought he wasn't doing a good job at our club. If he wasn't then why is there so much anger towards him? If he has the approval (which I can't see)from TB and PB to coach our squad then the bloke has bigger gonads than I thought and fair play to him for coming back. We may have to wait a while before we find out who our new boss but please Southampton just beat Dirty Leeds.

You never let me down! Barber makes a point loads of times that they don’t get everything right. The highly rated manager has just been sacked without being paid off. You crack on and I hope I have pleased you by biting. :D

Thanks for posting.

I think he’d have significantly more here, as despite your far superior history, at this moment in time, Ipswich are some distance behind Brighton in PL terms (obviously I’m biased).

I guess the question for McKenna is that if Ipswich go down next season, would he have missed his chance, as his stock will drop somewhat, and arguably he could be considered to have failed at the top level (albeit with an inferior squad).

Brighton never play their hand publicly, and it’s very possible that we’re not even interested despite what the papers and Sky said…… I mean nobody reported RdZ.

Re Sarmiento……. Of course for a price 😉😃

Good luck - there’s a big part of me that hopes McKenna does give it a go at Ipswich.
