An increase in asylum seekers heading to to Ireland proves that the Conservative party’s Rwanda plan is working, Rishi Sunak has claimed.

In an interview with Sky News’ Trevor Phillips that will air on Sunday morning, the prime minister said the “deterrent is already having an impact because people are worried about coming here”.

Yes. The Guardian has a political leaning in its editorial pages and it is firmly to the left.

But…

I challenge you to pick up an issue on Monday morning and find anything in the news pages that isn’t based on fact. Seriously. You’ll struggle.

You can dismiss it in your own head all you like but you don’t get to invalidate its news output simply because you don’t like its politics.

Presumably he can point to evidence of a corresponding decrease in asylum seekers arriving in the UK - or alternatively he is talking nonsense as usual.

The only hope he has is to hang on to the last minute and hope the economy is on an upturn, then promise unimageable tax cuts to congratulate himself and the nation for everyone's fantastic work.

There was a case a couple of months back, when a Facebook group opposing the 20 mph speed limit in Wales was found to belong to a Tory councillor in Gateshead. He had also voted in favour of a 20 Mph limit in his area. I guess this may have prompted a lot more digging.

To be fair, from the perspective of the older workers in question, axing it could be considered a humanitarian intervention.
