Interesting that you mention being bored of RDZ 'offering himself up' to bigger clubs whilst clamouring for the return of a manager who quite literally dropped us the moment someone came sniffing.

Potter didn't offer himself up, more got on his knees the moment Todd appeared with his big wad of cash

Sorry but Potter might have taken us to our highest ever finish, to date at that time, but he was also extremely fortunate.

On at least three occasions he could have been sacked.

The 11 games without a win, okay 8 of them were draws, but it was dross at times.

5 straight defeats on the bounce, only halted by a draw at relegation haunted Norwich.

Not forgetting the Sheff Utd game in lockdown on the Sunday, 1-0 down at home top team who hadn't won all season and the camera panned to Potter and he looked totally shellshocked and clueless.

And the piste de resistance his 'unique' EPL record of failing to beat all three of the relegated teams, home or away, Fulham, Sheff Utd and Norwich.


So its a no from me, if it happens I won't have a hissy fit and start returning season tickets, I will bide my time as it won't last that long.......

Yeah, it's been a disappointing season (and yet if we win tomorrow we'll go 7th so it's all relative). But we know what DeZerbi can do based on last year (and the beginning of this year) so I haven't given up on him yet.

He clearly recognises that he needs a bit more from the club to be/continue to be successful. My hope is that they can work this out together to produce another exciting season next year.

Given that I watch most of the games in the middle of the night I don't find it that difficult to stay awake during our games. God love Chris Hughton but that was hard to watch while fighting sleep. That's my barometer for quality of football. The Liverpool game was a good watch even though we were outplayed and lost.

I wouldn’t have Graham back even if he promised to bring Kurt Nogan back to the club as our striker coach.

Early in the Potter tenure I was astonished at the football we were playing, progressive in an exciting way… especially when compared with the pragmatic plod of Hughtonball.

Along the way, the exciting flourishes got stale… we started losing that creative edge and played it safe… during those winless, barren runs it was like comparing Tarkus with Love Beach…

Then when the big offer came along, Graham broke up the band, took the road crew, producer and all the hot groupies… he tore up any legacy there and then… I’m sure if he could Tony would quip: “we shan’t work together again…”

And in this instance, there’s no WAY sex farm is hitting #1 in Japan… no high fiving reunion here… not a bit of it.

The comedy IS over.

I like Potter ... but I usually don't like managers coming back. That's a dilemma! Whatever happens with him I hope he can show folks that he is a helluva coach. People moaning about that it took three years... As a more or less Brighton-neutral I would welcome him to QPR ... and a European tour in 2027 :love: If he comes back, I would say that he will have a better squad now than then (even if LT, MC and AM is gone).

In a way I’m saying I don’t want another season like this where the manager is being linked to every top team and we’ve all got that dread feeling. I don’t know how we stop being a stepping stone team but I thought potter was good for us and would provide some stability as it’s unlikely any other “top team” would have him. And I’m sure he’s probably progressed his playing style in the mean time, I’ve not forgotten the winless streaks but I’m prepared to forgive (not forget though).

This is a very good effort - asserting that a manager who left once, won't leave again and is actually "our man". Very very funny.

You are so right. Regardless of what I think of Potter we have gone back to successful managers before & it hasn't worked.

I never really warmed to Potter to be honest. I wanted him to be sacked a couple of times early on and even when it clicked I could only feel admiration for his talent and nothing good for the man himself. There's something about him that makes him so easy to hate. Roberto on the other hand, I love. Even when he's annoying in press conferences or plays Steele. I don't get angry with him just disappointed. He has enough credit in the bank for me to back him for a fair while.

Potter was part of the progression that took us to where we are but to have him back would be a major step backwards. Won't and shouldn't happen.

The only way of avoiding speculation is for us to go back to finishing in 15th place every season. Successful managers will always have the press trying to find the exclusive of where they are off to next. They'll continue to ask questions at press conferences trying to get a rise out of a manager. Even if the manager says I'm committed to the club the press will still link them with a bigger club every time a job comes up.

Are Albion fans more obsessive about getting old players / coaches back than any other club in the country? I have no idea, but it seems like we might be. There are hundreds of talented young Coaches out there, why would we look backwards rather than forwards?
