[TV] What's good to watch on BBC iPlayer ?

For some reason, the 2003 shuttle disaster didn't impact me as much as it should have. Perhaps 9/11 had recently dulled our abilities to be as shocked by tragedy. I don't know. Still, this is superb and wow, moving. Not only does it reinforce what an astoundingly monumental achievement the shuttle was, on a human level I can't think of anything behind the scenes that wasn't documented on camera and it's incredible. Add to the footage of these bright young things who will always remain so, the up to date interviews with their husbands/wives/kids 20 years on and 20 years older. Really brings all sorts of things and thoughts home.

New series of Race Across The World just started - always a decent watch.

They're going from the Northmost point of Japan (Hokkaido area) to bottom of Indonesia, taking in (I believe) parts of South Korea, China, Vietnam, Malaysia etc.

One pair have already spent over 33% of their budget within the first 10% of the race.

Not sure if this has been mentioned as all the keywords are too short/common to search for :ROFLMAO: . But we just started watching 'Here We Go' and think it's fantastic.

Reminds me of a mix of Outnumbered/This Country.

The space shuttle was supposedly designed to have a safety level of one catastrophe every 100,000 flights but actually had 2 catastrophes in 100 flights. Either something was seriously wrong on that program or it was monumentally unlucky.

Fans of The Socially Distant Sports bar Podcast will already know about Mammoth.

Mike Bubbins plays to type (in his own clothes) as a 1970's PE teacher returned to present day.

It does contain a couple of laughs, for our generation, despite being a bit shite.

Watched the first episode, it’s looking good. For those that are also enjoying it I strongly recommend the Spanish movie Celda 211

Oh no. I really hoped for Mike Bubbins this would be great and a hit.

It might be, there are some good lines - if you're old enough.
But with the best will in the world Bubbs ain't winning an Oscar, anytime soon.

They also appear to have thrown the kitchen sink at the first 3 episodes, I'm not sure they've got much left.

I'm sure there are considerably worse comedies out there.

He has said a number of times on the podcast that acting is a piece of piss, maybe being proven wrong on that one from the trailers I've seen...

It’s been a while since we’ve anything brand new from Scandinavia, but BBC has announced that it has acquired two Swedish crime dramas.

End of Summer, based on former police officer Anders de la Motte’s bestselling Swedish novel of the same name, is a six-part psychological thriller starring Julia Ragnarsson and Erik Enge.

The story begins in the summer of 1984 with five-year-old Billy disappearing in rural Sweden, and the inconclusive police investigation that follows, shattering the family. Two decades later, Billy’s sister Vera (Ragnarsson), meets a hauntingly familiar young man (Enge), which forces her to unravel the truth behind her brother’s disappearance.

Jana – Marked for Life, meanwhile, is based on the bestselling novel by Emelie Schepp about a public prosecutor and former child soldier, and stars Madeleine Martin, Pernilla August, August Wittgenstein, Zlatko Buric, Thure Lindhardt, Sigrid Johnson, Johan Ulveson, Fredrik Hallgren and Moa Gammel.

During an investigation into the murder of a high-ranking official at the Swedish Migration Agency, the main suspect is also found dead, and Jana immediately recognises something on his scarred body. To understand her own traumatic past, Jana must reach the killer ahead of the police.

I re-watched another great Storyville documentary, Jonestown - Terror in the Jungle - I think its been around for a while now. Gripping and disturbing.
