Although in fairness it appears we spent more on Bounanotte than Man U did on Garnacho.

What a player Facundo is going to be in 2-3 years time though.

Never any doubt 😜

Good to see his visual performance backed up by the stats but I bet Tony Bloom could have told us this November 2022 when they finalised his January . transfer agreement ! 😎

now hear me out ...

this is going to sound a bit silly, but watch the video and maybe it could change your view.

In the video it focusses on a part of his game that never really stuck in my head from watching him play - he really seems to be able to pick pockets and break up play. Maybe we have him in the wrong position. If he could get the rolling around on the floor out of his game, he could be the quality DM we've been looking for since Caicedo left.
(obvious caveats about youtube videos not being the full picture of the player)

Yeah its something I hadn't noticed until the last few weeks. Funnily enough the video more emphasises to me that his floated cross pitch passes definitely need work because although they find their man, they take the momentum out of the play each time, they are to 'on' the man as oppose to in front of the man.

TBF he could definitely now play in RDZs 2 man CM pairing, his defensive capabilities have improved so much recently that he's now just as good if not better than Gilmour and Gross at winning back the ball, but he doesn't have the outrageous passing ability or decision making of them. Regardless, his best position has always been the number 10/CAM role. He has that attacking output that is hard to come across. Lots of work and improvement needed but he's so young still and improved so much since given more game time. Very notable improvements other than the aforementioned are his energy/determination, his strength and balance under pressure with the ball and his eye for goal. No doubt as well that he carrying out RDZs tactical instructions very well too - something that I suspect poor Baleba is struggling to do.

I’m gonna say it as it’s how I feel. He’s on the whole underwhelming and not up to it yet. Poor decision making and lightweight.

I’m not one to pop at players often - it’s been on my mind for a long time. He’s shown some glimpses centrally but nowhere near enough. Exactly like Fati.

Of course, they need time to develop, but right now he’s not hitting anywhere near the heights we need.

He’s just turned 19 and a premier league regular. Lad is overflowing with potential.

Ok - I think his development has really accelerated this season. His game time needs to be managed, but I think he has contributed a huge amount. I love the way he receives the ball on the run and he is starting to make an impact defensively, especially nicking the ball back.

He also seems to be rolling around quite a bit less over the last few weeks / month.

I thought this last season.

But he has made massive strides. Still a way to go as you indicate but I’d start him against Roma behind Welbz.

Excellent assessment here. His improvement has been stunning this season, especially in his tackling, tenacity and in-yer-face pressing. I'd like him to stay on his feet more and have to say that refs have assessed the (non-)fouls on him impressively.

A little OT but it's exactly the sort of inside right to outside left that commentators always used to cream themselves over when performed by Gerrard to similarly no effect.
I can't remember who it was but I read an interview some time ago with a player about when they signed for Clough. They talked about how they really liked doing that pass and their satisfaction with watching it arc and dip like a perfect loft onto the green in golf.
The first time they did it in training the great man shouted "Don't bloody do that again. It's just decoration"
