I don’t think playing Pervis and Joel and Baleba would have made the slightest difference.
Perv goes awol in defence and Veltman hasn’t got 90 mins in him yet. Baleba hasn’t started for months either .

The team he put out was the best available ( goalie maybe not)

Wait until you see the line up Vs Forest , as that will look weak.
Accept I don’t know fitness levels but think we should have loaded the midfield. Thought that Baleba played well at Fulham.

Absolutely this,..

it was about damage limitation tonight, sadly RDZ set out the same old way “the Brighton way” when we needed another way.

I love the bloke, but he has a life span of two seasons wherever he goes because he plays one way.
Yep, sadly - and I love him too… he’s charismatic, fun… a great bloke and a football fanatic AND he’s clearly not a bad coach… but he’s so tactically inflexible and the whole Jason Steele thing feels like some of stubborn refusal to accept facts.

I hope he can find a way… a way to become a truly great coach.

I still back the manager and players.

It is a level that we are not used to and perhaps a step too far. It has been an incredible experience and sometimes fans, including myself, forget how far we have come. Plus, we still have another match with Roma at The AMEX.

I feel like this season is coming to a close. Another chapter in our book. I do feel sad and annoyed right now but I'm sure there are many special moments to come in the future. UTA!

Just really have to suck that one up!

we were up against one of the power houses of Italian football and we are a team who can’t score goals apart from against really poor sides.

we have our 15 minutes of fame in the group stage and nothing will take that away from us.

it is not RDZ fault that we , when put though or the ball put on our head, cannot hit a barn door with a banjo. He said he wanted more players in January and the management of the club decided that they knew better and didn’t back him. He will now go and we will look back on his tenure as one of mostly pure joy.

you cannot lose Pedro and Mitoma ( and march ), enciso 90% of the season and Fati for 3 months as well as losing and not replacing Mac Alister and Caciedo and expect the rest to step up.

The trick is now not to have this season fizzle out. We have some big games coming up and we need to be up for them.

that said, my chelsea ticket will be on the exchange as golf competition season starts in a couple of weeks.
You know the Chelsea game will be midweek if they beat Leicester in the Cup

Brighton factually.....

He obviously does have the passion, but I wonder about the tactical intelligence.

bit torn about tonight - we all know RDZ defensively is poor and we will always concede 1 or 2 goals. But you can’t account for a couple of big individual mistakes (and not Webster so who can we blame !) and we seem to be going backwards very quickly having lost the ability to score.

Same. Although Roma were clearly the better team on the night, 4-0 maybe flattered them a little. We could (should) have scored at least two and the impact of our failure to do so was compounded by defensive mistakes. We created plenty of chances, and were on the front foot when their third went in, but poor finishing and poor defending let us down. Tonight just felt like everything that could go wrong did (though thankfully no one sent off or injured).

Legend has it, there is still a small group of Brighton fans in the Stadio Olimpico, singing the great escape.

Putting no emphasis on defence, or even trying not to concede again at 2 nil down, away in the first leg of a knockout competition surely has to be questioned tactically. I support the process and the style of football we play but the tactics in this setting seem mad.

Here is the thing. Ok we've had dreadful injuries and we are playing in Europe for the first time but our defenders are in no way as poor as RDZs tactics are making them look at the moment. We were playing a Europa League 1st leg tie away, we did not need to have both CB stepping up or both full-backs. It was naive, reckless and it backfired big time. This happened v Fulham as well as other games like Luton and Villa. If RDZ is this world-class coach then he needs to work out how to be pragmatic at certain times in games. I also think we miss MC at times but we have had games this season where we haven't missed him at all. I love RDZ I think he will stay another season but if we lose on Sunday this could all get very, very ugly and with the squad we have it really shouldn't.

Good evening everyone and sorry for the unsolicited intrusion.
I feel like having my say after reading so many of your comments, it is absolutely not easy after a defeat like this to remain clear-headed is normal, but what I can say having seen a bit of your recent history is to be proud of what your players have you and are still giving you, it's your first appearance in a European competition, and as I told you here a few days ago this thing matters a lot at this level, Roma have reached the semi-finals and finals several times in recent years in Europe, and you absolutely must start again from these defeats to be able to look to the future with more conviction, because it is precisely these defeats that will help the whole environment to grow and improve in Europe too, you have very solid foundations and I assure you of a master on the bench. ....Really

The totally unnecessary shithousery from the Roma players was so galling. They’d won the game, and we didn’t look like scoring but going down every 30 seconds holding their faces was something else. It’s going to be a long 90 mins next week, if thats their game plan
That was annoying and calling only 5 mins of added time just encourages it. There was virtually no football after 80 mins. Most of the added 5 mins was taken up with Roma players lying on their backs and not one second was added.

Of course they did, we allowed that to happen by making the game so easy for them.
