Several times now over a period of a few months I have received emails from work picking everyone as a group up on things not being done / being done wrong.

It actually wouldn’t take much to look at everyone’s reports and single out the people doing this wrong, slacking off etc.

I know exactly who is doing this stuff and have now bubbled them up because I’m sick of getting lumped in with idiots who can’t do their job.

My question is simple.

Am I right to get annoyed at this practice of “send all” emails? when I know it’s not me in the wrong and it is actually quite easy for the powers that be to find out who is in the wrong.

And should I expect an apology for my reputation being damaged by being lumped in with fuckwits who are too stupid to do the job?

It depends on what is is and whether multiple people can do the function/piece of work in question.

I've had multiple situations over the years where an error has been performed, we've spoken to the person directly, but still had to send an email out to the wider team to remind everyone of the correct procedure and make sure that everyone is one the same page whilst also not directly calling out the individual in question.

Invariably I know the person who did it and they know too. When sending it out I wouldn't even consider blaming/implicating/tarring others with the same brush, more that it's an error that we don't want someone else to make.

I suppose the question is, have the powers that be handled this with the person? If they did, how would you know as HR cases like that should be confidentially managed?

No idea if they have spoken to anyone individually and as you say, nor should I.

I get what you’re saying. My issue is that it is easy to check who has been at fault.

I find group emails that include people that have never done anything wrong at work to be frankly, insulting .

Ha! Well, this is sort of my dilemma. Am I being a Princess Poopsy or am I legitimately annoyed?

I don’t plan on taking anything further, I’ve spoken to the email sender. They are a great person and I get on with them so I’m not going to make a big deal.

Was simply wondering if me being annoyed is justified.

Agree it's really weak management and possibly means they're afraid to confront the source of the issue. I would ideally speak to the sender directly asking them to confirm what my personal involvement and/or responsibility in whatever the issue was, and if there is none ask that I'm not included in such emails as they're causing unnecessary worry and stress. If you can't speak to them, or would prefer a record, reply to the email......

You being annoyed is justified but that’s life i’m afraid, there will always be way more people taking the piss , especially post covid.

Is it really that they know who the poor staff are, but continue to value your work?

I know their HR method here is poor.

How about a polite and calm email to a senior colleague you trust, to check if they're happy with your work?

Good idea. I’ll just turn the desks the right way up and put the doors back on their hinges.

Should be able to put this right.

No. Your reputation remains unsullied as everyone knows who the email is aimed at (not you, unless you are crushingly lacking in self-awareness :lolol:)

Either they don't know who is responsible or they won't address it with the person responsible. Either way, see above.

I see you've done what I would have done, grab a coffee and go and have an informal chat with sendee. At least then you're not guessing on the intention behind the e-mail. Always best face to face :thumbsup:
