It could well be related. I've just watched it back and he seems to have taken a heavy fall on his hip, which could well have aggravated something further up the spine.

I'm taking issue with those that say the club were unprepared and don't have a big enough squad (i.e needed to sign players) to cope with this.
That is madness. We have a very deep squad.

One of many factors I suspect.
All clubs are seeing higher number of injuries
Factors seem to include:
- Extended season 22/23
- Prem league directive on stoppage time, leading to longer matches in 23/24
- Increased stoppages for VAR
- Young squad
- Additional Europa League matches
- Intensive training form De Zerbi ( has been hinted at, but don't know if true)
- May 8, 2018

Not good, although we are too reliant on him in my opinion, time for the others to step up.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but your posts seem to have suggested we didn’t need to sign any wingers.
If we had signed a left footed winger, Adingra would now be able take Mitoma’s position (Adingra’s preferred position) and the left footed winger would take Adingra’s. Therefore Mitoma’s injury does impact the wide personnel issue.

That's right, the club's recruitment team couldn't start to do any work on a replacement until the clock chimed midnight on December 31st
@Skinner would add another bullet point.
* We (the Albion) are a small bottom-half club with limited resources, it was bound to balance out this season after our heaps of luck last.

So what you're saying is.......................... right footed Adingra can now play on the left where Mitoma(right footed) was
But we would need a left footer to play on the right where Adingra (right footed) was.
Why's that then? Why suddenly is the lack of left footer a problem when you were OK with 2 right footers before.....

In reality -who knows; there could be many factors. I did speculate at the start of the season when the injuries started to mount up, whether 3 intensive matches in the USA were a good idea, given that traditionally pre-season is about a gradual climb to peak fitness. It just seems incredibly bad luck, as the continual injuries just keep coming, along with initial mixed messages. Fergie's injury was not a worry, yet he's out tomorrow, Pedro's injury was minor, now apparently not and the same with Mitoma, who was billed as a doubt for the Everton match, which clearly implies there was a chance he would be playing. Obviously the more games the greater the risk, but it just seems so unlikely to have such rotten luck lasting what is looking like an entire season.

So we needed him to get injured in late December really.
Yeah. I was frustrated at the end of the window because I knew RDZ wanted more but he ruined that himself when he said "I always want more"! The issue in Jan was it was a dead window. No one was buying, no one was selling.
If we get more FFP points deductions in the league and people with suits and clipboards start walking round Chelsea, then that plus the Euros will make this summer a dead-ish window too. A good time for Tony to say we don't need to make big sales because it's fairly likely that no one will be bidding Caicedo money this time round. To go back to the thread subject, especially not for a player with a back complaint so serious he's out for three months, no matter how good he was before.

This sort of news really awakens the cretins doesn't it? The sort who are just waiting in the shadows, biding their time before they can leap into action and have a good old moan and pile on.

To take Mitoma specifically, he's not played any FA Cup games and only one league cup game this season (not sure how the number of matches in the league would compare at the same stage to last season), so he's not even played 6 extra games for us overall.
He's missed a decent number of matches with another injury as well.
If it is related it can only be in a very distant second or third order / trickle down effect kind of a way where a minor issue has cascaded down to a much bigger one down the line.
I completely forgot about Euro 2024. I love proper international tournaments …. excited.
