So because we won and he wore new shoes, his grandad is now going to bum him? Seems a bit harsh.
It’s that dry northern wit again. New shoes? - you’re a poof. It doesn’t matter if it’s a young child. Bonus points for playing BRIGHTON, and you know the sort of things they get up to there.

Cretins.

Thank goodness for VAR. If he’d got away with a tackle like that it would have been criminal. I’d like to see him get longer than the 3 game ban. Was something you’d have seen Vinnie Jones or John Fashanu do. Wtf Wilder was trying to say about it being a strong tackle and would’ve been ok in his day - maybe that’s why all his generation are crocked. Take your point about Atwell being unsighted - can be the only reason for a yellow. Don’t think we’ll have an easier match all season - they just want the season to end - can only see it getting worse when you look at their fixtures. Wolves will run amok.
I couldn't fully understand why a red wasn't shown straight away. But watching it again, the offside camera angle shows the full contact. Attwell had an onside view and likely didn't see the tackle at it's worst. He may not even have seen the point at which contact is made. He delayed when seeing the onside review, but drew a red as soon as he saw the other angle. VAR got him there.

Isn't Holgate on loan from Everton? it is almost like he is helping is parent club stay up by taking Sheffield Utd out of the equation.

One of the impacts of VAR is that it has lessened the responsibilities of Assistant Refereees. They seem happy not to give advice to the referee and rely on VAR to correct errors. The assistant had a good view of the height and speed of the impact from behind but as far as I could see offered no insight to help the referee.

Yep. Loads of 'agent Holgate' posts on SM from Scousers.
I'm not quite ready to believe there's any truth to any 'Agent Holgate' suggestions - but IF he really did want to scupper his loan club's chances, could there be any more perfect way of doing so, than to get himself sent off in the first few minutes of a game, in the process of taking out a player due to face your parent club in a week's time...

To be fair to the ref, I did not notice that the tackle was so bad. The TV screen showed it from quite a long distance and certainly gave no indication that the foot was so high. It wasn't until it was properly analysed that the malicious intent was there for all to see. As soon as Attwell saw it on the monitor, you knew that Holgate was off and deservedly so. Much as we tend to moan about VAR, they were spot on this time, thankfully. My wife chose to remind me of that and not to come home in a foul mood blaming VAR ever again!

I agree. I think Sunday was an example of how VAR can help or give new evidence to a ref that was beyond his available understanding of an incident.

If a player is like that and thinks this way (**** Holgate)- then he should never play the game again. Scum.

I would rather we did not have VAR on balance, as the long delays do get on your nerves, but in fairness, they do get most decisions right -another case in point would be the offside which led to Sheff Utd's "goal" being rightly disallowed. I suppose, if we are honest, it is great when we benefit and dreadful when not. However, the blatant errors we have all witnessed are inexcusable -Spurs and Place last season being prime examples.

It might be a consideration if they were likely to stay up, but they are already more down than Australia.

The ref had already disallowed their ’ goal’

I'm pretty sure that Attwell was at least partially unsighted. This can happen. It's up to the rest of the officiating team to give a steer, and as has been covered on this page of the thread, was well and quickly dealt with by VAR.
One thing worth noting, the poster you're responding to is a SU fan, and was incensed about the ref for our previous game against them. Their fans in the stadium didn't seem too keen on Attwell and, even more so, Mitoma who was roundly booed thereafter.

Sheff Utd boss Wilder fined £11,500 by FA - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68353483

He also strongly criticised the ref in the cup game against us a few weeks ago, and that's even before one of his players assaulted Kauro Mitoma
Ooh I somehow missed this:
"I was told by a Premier League referee, who I've known for a long time and who's as honest as the day is long. He said every 50-50 decision will go against you."

These two sentences seem incompatible.

As I read the Sheffield fans site the booing of Mitoma was about their view of his falling in the penalty area not a response to the red card. Virtually all their fans comments are incensed anger against Colgate for his stupidity and all agree it was a red
