We should have put that to bed in the first half, Villa were there for the taking before half time. They were the better side from then on

Very poor shootout barring Baggaley who did well to save two and was trying to get our takers into it

The progress of the team is so disappointing. Huge amounts of money from Tony has been put into this project. These are full-time professionals, maybe not on the money of the men but nonetheless it is their job. Some of the standard of play is shocking.

The passing was really off tonight, they didn't look as fit as Villa either. I've seen them play much better than that.
They normally do play better, just very frustrating to watch an Albion side struggle against a side who should've been kicked out of the competition

I would like to credit the Villa fans who were genuinely excellent. Brought a good number given it’s a cold Wednesday and a competition no one really cares about, and sang constantly and loudly. Also had an amazing variety of songs

I think there is a very high chance you could pick up better grass roots managers and their coaches around Sussex, that could bring on this side. Unless we are buying the wrong players. I will agree it was low in quality and it was very frantic, disorganised effort was all I saw. Have we done a Chelsea?
Surely we have talent coming through?

I watched all of 2nd half. The standard was terrible everything from passing, first touch, marking and tackling. I have been impressed when I have seen Chelsea Arsenal etc on TV but this really is another level. Would think only chance is to sneak a win against one of the other lower sides who are just as bad.
Brfore penalties there muust have been 25 people in a circle. Feel sorry for Bloom. Somebody is responsible for putting that together after huge backing in last few years.

Despite this there were some good results as well.

I was very surprised by the sacking and can’t believe there wasn’t more to it.

I did post a very negative response to what I saw but only fair to say our CBs clearing of the many balls into box was very good and would think will be much needed in remaining games

Passing was dreadful, ran out of steam as well. Despite the poor results, we looked much better with Phillips, looking like an odd decision.
Mel really was one of the good 'guys' Utterly mystifying the decision to bin her off. You're up against rich teams like Arsenal who can fill a 60k capacity stadium for some games, Chelsea massive crowds too, City, Liverpool all paying big, big transfer fees compared to us, so we're always going to struggle to be competitive. Survival each season is a result in itself for a club of our status in the WSL, but Tony obviously feels differently.

It’s not disgusting, it’s inconvenient. Haven’t the council made it their mission to find a home for the women’s team within the Brighton and Hove area?
By disgusting, I meant disgustingly close. I know they're trying to find a site down here but I was in a bad mood yesterday, in pain with arthritis and extremely disappointed with the way the game turned out, as I hate everything villa....hence my (over)reaction

Despite the massive investment in the women's game, there is still a very limited talent pool available. And the top 5/6 teams have all/overwhelming majority of those players.
You only have to look at the England team - Sarina Weigman picks the same squad and only uses the same 14/15 players at any opportunity. The rest are just making up the numbers. Much like the teams in the WSL.
It will take another 10-15 years to get a genuinely competitive league and a better standard of football.
It will happen because of the investment in developing an Academy system. But as we have seen from the men's team, it takes time to get players through the Academy system and into the first team.

Fair enough but will Bloom continue to throw money at it if we get relegated which with that group of players there is every chance.

Can’t say I’m over enamoured with Villa myself. I’ve never seen us win up there. They always get a jammy result against (not the 6-1 obviously) both home and away. The pantomime villain that was Jack Grealish is now their goalie Martinez. Can’t speak for their women though - I’m sure they’re lovely and make wonderful cups of tea. :drink:

I agree the pool of players are not there yet, however a good coach can get surprising results. I also think women and girls football will get there quicker than your stated (10-15 years), because it started developing well before most average Joe's realise.
I look forward to seeing a much better Albion ladies very soon.

Alisha Lehmann - think she is the female version of Jack Grealish
