I believe as well as the 4 onfield decisions publicly checked there were 3 or 4 more done more discretely. All 7 or 8 stayed with the onfield decision. That in itself is unusual in the current day and age.
I can understand wilder being frustrated. Their game plan relied on a prem ref constant whistle blowing style. The ref today didn't do that. It prevented their spoiling , break up the game approach. It may not be consistent with other prem refs but i know what i would rather watch

I agree he was decent apart from a few mins in the second half. There was a spell when Pervis was hammered from the side and looked like a knee in his quad but the funniest one was when Pedro was grabbed with both hands and thrown to the ground but nothing given.
We go down far too easily at times. JPVH and Buonanotte are big culprits.

Manager out of his depth more like!“Ref out of his depth” and effectively we’re cheats (after praising Aston Villa).
One of the better refs I’ve seen in recent seasons, hopefully he gets given a PL opportunity.

I thought the Utd challenges were clumsy, and given the opportunity, we'd be daft not to take advantage.

Completely over the top of Wilder to say the ref was out of his depth.
Ref got all the big calls right, let the game flow and didn't make a single contentious call.
Wilder doesn't give a single example of why the ref was out of his depth, just reiterates that the ref was being given a trial at reffing a premier league game.
He went after the ref at half time.
As they had just come back from 2-0 down with goals given by the ref and confirmed by VAR, I'm not sure what he was so angry about.
My assumption was that he could see how badly his team were being outclassed and needed to deflect onto an easy target.

Without wanting to upset the applecart too much as I am clearly in the minority, I thought the referee was fair to middling, certainly wasn't as good as others are making out, but no where near as bad as Wilder's comments IMHO. In what was seemingly an easy game to officiate as it was mainly played at a walking pace, he didn't necessarily do anything that exceptional nor did he make a clanger.
A good spot for the second penalty, but he missed Webster get clattered in the first minute by Brereton Diaz (to the delight of many no doubt) which was potentially a booking and would've allowed him to control the game a bit better, whilst a booking that early on might've been harsh, letting it go set the tone and seemingly gave Sheffield United permission to leave a boot in at every opportunity.
But our play acting yesterday was pretty embarrassing and I think some Brighton fans are quick to forget the Fulham circus that rolled into town a few months back. Had the roles been reversed we would've been the same if we had 2 penalties given against us, both our goals were subjected to long VAR checks and seemingly every decision went Brighton's way, I think Sheffield United's frustration is understandable.
As for Salisbury, do we really need to say any more?

Fishing, surely? He was excellent and got both penalties right. If anything, he gave Wilder's bootboys too much leeway in the early stages but then started penalising them for trying to rough us up.

The only thing Wilder didn't complain about was the two penalties. Yet, despite the ref getting both of those correct, by his own admission, he thinks the ref is not up to the job.

I think that if roles were reversed many of the same people praising the ref would be saying exactly what the Sheffield fans are saying. Some of them often do.

After the first 15 minutess when the ref gave them leeway to kick lumps out of us, he started penalising them for fouls. That's probably what upset Wilder, along with the colour of the ref's skin.
What managers like Wilder fail to realise, is their constant moaning especially about a ref, who got all the main decisions correct, just ends up with their views being irrelevant. He just comes over as an angry bullying prick.
