I'm hearing absolutely glowing reviews about this lad from those in the know in South America.

Does slightly puzzle me why many more clubs aren't in for him, if that's the case?

At £10m if he's this good surely half the Prem would be interested?!
If this drags on much longer, some of them will be!

He bought a number of antiques off me. He's a nice person. He used to live in Noel Coward's old house but has since moved. Went to a BBQ there.
My wife has met him, said he’s a lovely guy. I’ve always enjoyed his gentle comedy. Where’s Coward’s old house out of interest?

surely there can't really be a bidding war when there's a release clause? Anyone who meets the minimum figure is automatically accepted so it doesn't really make much difference to Boca if they hold out, as there's only so much they can get out of the deal

the real winner if there's another party interested is the agent and the player who ARE the ones who can instigate a bidding frenzy

- Not every club has a gap in this area on the pitch.
- Not every club offers a credible pathway to the first team
- Not every club has a track record of working well and developing South American teenagers - in terms of duty of care, relocating teenagers in a different continent.
- Not every club wants to risk £10m on someone who - despite all the promise - is 19 and has only 20 first team appearances.
- or has the ££.

Albion have a model for all of the above and are one of the top 20 or so clubs in the world and he wants to come here and has made that clear . Who else really can compete with the above ?

Exactly.

Barco can pay the money and buy his contract out any time he wants. He clearly wants to come here so that his agent can get a fat percentage of the transfer when he signs for Chelsea next summer for £75m.

It’ll all be done tomorrow. Patience please.

Very much this. It really feels like Boca know they have got another club about to make an offer too and want a bidding war.
There's a release clause. Doesn't help them at all if there's a bidding war. They won't get any more ££. The only thing they seem to want is for him to stay which is now clear isn't happening.

Myself and @dazzer6666 have been onto his bullshit for a while - sad to out so much time into making stuff up to our fanbase - some of whom are gullible enough to believe it!
He’s been called out a fair times and still got a few bits of completely wrong stuff up. It’s a shame people believe he is some ITK

There won’t be a bidding war. Clubs only have to offer the release clause and it becomes up to the player. There is no point clubs pushing up their bids above the release clause as it holds no sway, the club is legally bound to inform the player of all bids that match the release clause.

The only bidding war would be when it came to offering personal terms to the player of more than one club match the release clause.

My understanding is that once the release clause is met it all depends on whether the player can agree personal terms with the buying club. Based only on what I’ve read here, sounds like Barco wants to come here so there shouldn’t be any problem. As you say, the biggest risk is the agent misadvising his client, usually for selfish financial reasons.

Of course not every. But more than 1-2, you'd think. A top top prospect for £10m you would think have a number of suitors. I suspect a few have probably enquired but we just haven't heard about it.

When did half of those things ever stop the likes of Chelsea? Most players they buy they don't have a gap for, and they don't offer a credible pathway either. What they do offer is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Only guessing but this looks like one of those where we have been heavily trailing the player for some time and when door has opened have offered a clear pathway that is more attractive. Unlike those clubs we now have a catalogue of examples for any young player that shows they will get time and use us a step towards europes top clubs.

It’s why selling players to big clubs for big money (whilst disappointing for us as fans) is just as important as the player identification in the process of keeping the conveyor belt of talent running.

I totally get all of that. He seems to be advised well and I think he'll get him.

I'm just saying I'm surprised we haven't heard more teams linked to him, is all. If he's half as good as it seems he is, £10m is an utter steal.

One of the SA journos is saying his ceiling is higher than all of the other SA players we've picked up (ie Caicedo, Enciso, Estupinan, Mac Allister) - that's a big statement.

Man City were supposedly interested but have looked elsewhere in terms of full backs. Other clubs would probably like him but who else has a project like ours, has done the hard yards of showing interest for nearly a year (the scouting, offers in the summer) . Given he's shown interest in us - and there's an exit clause then its all over bar the shouting (some boring negotiation over who pays what when, and sell on fees etc)

I saw a report in a Leicester paper online that said that Man City are in for him and that they would loan him out to Leicester City This one
Old news……

In late November, Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco emerged as a potential option in a roundabout way. The Argentinian youth international is reportedly being targeted by Man City, who would then loan him out to Leicester to allow him to get used to English football.”

Mate - you don't have to sell how our club is run to me (bar the club shop/merch side of things...) we are SUPERBLY run. I wonder if it's that maybe he also has one of those rare agents who isn't a massive tit.

They can’t hold us to ransom as he has a release clause.
However, I think we have previously offered something like $9m in two instalments and a 10% sell on.
However, it seems like they want the $10m all upfront.
Comes across as a bit short sighted from their perspective unless they have a cash flow issue.
10% of a potential sell on of say $40m would make our offer far better. They seem to want the money now which is possibly to sign a replacement asap.
Looks like he’s ours anyway.
Reported that personal terms already done.
Potential is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. He could be sold on for a massive profit with that shared back to his current club. Or he could flop massively, leave on a free and they could end up with sweet FA. Or, if you prefer, he could be a massive hit, but love the sunny South coast so much that he decides to spend the entire rest of his career as a Seagull, which would also result in no sell-on profits.

Asking for a guaranteed $10m now rather than $9m in installments with some random and unknowable amount of money at some undefined point in the future seems a little less short sighted when you think of it like that.

I don’t think that is what is happening at all- while no one source is absolutely reliable they are all saying the same thing ( and not just syndicated either) - as per Barco’s contract extension last year, the exit clause gets triggered if they do not accept Brighton’s offer by tomorrow- if that happens they have to sell at that value ( plus any add ins etc) Boca actually stand to lose out potentially - not only Barco leaving any way but in the possible sell on potential if we buy him. Barco has been quoted in multiple sources saying he likes Brighton. There’s been so much noise in us getting this through, from such a wide variety of sources including extensive coverage on Ole, Argentina’s biggest sports newspaper - I would be frankly gobsmacked if out of the blue he was sold to another PL club by tomorrow.
