Gary Lineker is to step back from presenting Match of the Day until an agreement is reached on his social media use - BBC statement.
It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

I was 100% behind him in the MoTD row, but at the end of the day he's still a rich bastard and like all rich bastards he should pay his f***ing tax and not try and find clever ways of paying less. Firstly that link is five years old. What he's done today is sucessfully defend an action by HMRC regarding his IR35 status between 2013 and 2017. Here's a useful link :wink:

HMRC tried to say he was employed by the BBC, but he says he is self employed, working for BT and Walkers as well. It has always been the case that self employed people have more tax allowances.
It's not the first time HMRC have wasted money going after self employed television presenters.

Maybe they should ask how a Prime Minister earning millions each year only pays half a million in income tax.

So the recent row with the BBC which ended with them confirming that he was outside of their employee code of conduct couldn't have done his defence any harm then

Trouble for HMRC was that it was so difficult to establish he had other contracts with other companies...like turning on the TV once in a while...

As has been said before, forget the legal definitions, there is a fine line MORALLY between tax avoidance and tax evasion.

I'm not going to get preachy. I used a solicitor to legitimately and legally make sure I paid the minimum of tax on an unexpected income. I didn't think it was immoral at all. I would have thought many would query that- until it affects them. I've always commented on how good us English are at hypocrisy.
