Rishi Sunak has sacked the Conservative party chair, Nadhim Zahawi, after he was found to have breached the ministerial code by failing to declare the HMRC investigation into his tax affairs.

An investigation by the prime minister’s ethics adviser, Sir Laurie Magnus, concluded that Zahawi had made a “serious breach” of the code by not telling officials he was under investigation by the tax body when he was appointed chancellor by Boris Johnson
Surely Sunak was aware when he appointed Zahawi chair? This must call into question Sunak’s judgement.

Sunak is so weak, he caved into the pressure, and maybe to hide his own tax affairs! Ooopps, did I really say that?
I have to stand up for Sunak here. If his tax avoidance hasn't yet been proven to be illegal tax evasion by an independent enquiry initiated by him, and he hasn't been fined for it, then it didn't happen. You know the rules of this Government

One would think so, wouldn't one

Sunak was warned of Zahawi reputational risk in October, say sources

Rishi Sunak was told there could be a reputational risk to the government from Nadhim Zahawi’s tax affairs when he appointed him as Conservative party chair in October, sources have told the Observer. During the period when the prime minister was drawing up his new cabinet, senior government officials gave him informal advice about the risks from an HMRC investigation that had been settled just months earlier, sources said.

That included warning Sunak, whose knowledge of Zahawi’s finances at the time of his appointment has come under close scrutiny in recent days, that the tax issue involved a significant sum of money and was not a trivial accounting error, it is claimed.

Maybe he forgot that he was told, or a 'penalty' doesn't count as a 'fine' - see above :lolol:

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
Zahawi's sacking confirms what everyone knew. He's a greedy, self serving, crooked scumbag.

How on earth is he not appropriate to be Chairman of the current Tory party?
I thought that was the person specification for the job. Ideal candidate - sign him up

Oh...

And the only thing any of that scheming, duplicitous, muculent, writhing nest of toads will ever be sorry for is getting caught.

Plough the f***ing lot of them into a ditch and set it on fire.

Could be seen as misleading the HOC as at PMQs a few weeks ago, he was sure there were no issues.
Ultimately we know it will be swept under the carpet as misleading the HOC doesn’t seem to be a big issue for a PM anymore.
Although he may have forgotten, then I think we can all agree with him and move on. Could be worse, imagine a Corbyn government.

The sacking letters between them are little more than another declaration of the so-called achievements of the Tory government. They know these are always published and use them as a vehicle for their propaganda.
They make Kim Jong Un look like Kofi Annan.

Dear Nadhim,
When I became Prime Minister last year, I pledged that the Government I lead would have integrity, professionalism and accountability at every level.
That is why, following new information which came to light in recent days regarding your personal financial arrangements and declarations, I asked Sir Laurie Magnus, the Independent Adviser on Ministers' Interests, to fully investigate this matter. You agreed and undertook to co-operate fully with the inquiry.
Following the completion of the Independent Adviser's investigation - the findings of which he has shared with us both - it is clear that there has been a serious breach of the Ministerial Code. As a result, I have informed you of my decision to remove you from your position in His Majesty's Government.
As you leave, you should be extremely proud of your wide-ranging achievements in government over the last five years.
In particular, your successful oversight of the Covid 19 vaccine procurement and deployment programme which ensured the United Kingdom was at the forefront of the global response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Your role was critical to ensuring our country came through this crisis and saved many lives. And as the Conservative Party Chairman, you have undertaken significant restructuring to Conservative Campaign Headquarters and readied us for important work in the coming months.
It is also with pride that I, and previous Prime Ministers, have been able to draw upon the services of a Kurdish-born Iraqi refugee at the highest levels of the UK Government. That is something which people up and down this country have rightly valued.
I know I will be able to count on your support from the backbenches as you continue to passionately and determinedly serve your constituents of Stratford-on-Avon and represent the many issues and campaigns you are dedicated to. Thank you for your service to this and previous governments.
Yours sincerely,
Rishi “spineless twat” Sunak

The letter from Nadhim Zahawi

Dear Prime Minister,
Thank you for your kind words. It has been, after being blessed with my loving family, the privilege of my life to serve in successive governments and make what I believe to have been a tangible difference to the country I love.
I arrived in this country fleeing persecution and speaking no English. Here, I built a successful business and served in some of the highest offices in government. I believe that in no other country on earth would my story be possible. It reaffirms my belief in the greatness and compassion of our nation.
I take particular pride in two achievements in government. First the vaccine rollout. This saved huge numbers of lives. It is also what has allowed us to move beyond Covid and get our economy and society moving again. I believe that there are wider lessons for governments in the success of this programme. Policy making and delivery are normally treated as two separate processes. In the vaccine rollout, they were combined, and I think that accounts for why it worked so well. If we could apply this model to other parts of government, I believe it could have a transformative results.
The second was my role in the mourning period for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Those days, that celebration of her life of service represented so much of what is best about our country. I was honoured that as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster I could help ensure that everything went smoothly and that as many people as possible could pay their respects and tributes to our longest serving monarch.
I am concerned, however, about the conduct of some of the fourth estate in recent weeks. In a week when a Member of Parliament was physically assaulted, I fail to see how one headline on this issue 'The Noose Tightens' reflects legitimate scrutiny of public officials. I am sorry to my family for the toll this has taken on them.
You can be assured of my support form the backbenches in the coming years. Your five priorities are the right priorities, and I will do whatever I can to help you deliver them.
Yours,
Rt Hon Nadhim “tax evading liar” Zahawi MP

Vaccine vaccine blah blah loved the queen rhubarb rhubarb.

Love the queen and country but not enough to pay your fair share of taxes.

Fuuuck off with you.

I see Mogg has got a job at Geebies too. These "partisan" news channels are the new medium for the Tories as the Russian money dries up.
Indeed.

Before too long, the collection of criminals, right wing crack-pots, tax evaders, liars, thieves and bullies currently calling themselves His Majesty’s Government will be nothing more than a mob of fringe interest loons able to command only the attention of fascist ghosts who lurk in greasy corners of the internet waiting for hate speeches by thugs like Zahawi and Raab to be uploaded like turds floating to the surface.

Brexit will be reversed, Sunak will be a footnote in history, Johnson a man only spoken of in mocking laughter and the lid of the ark will come crashing back into place, allowing reason, calm and sensible debate to once again reign.

This is how it can be.
