I remember receiving an email from the club at the end of the season, that was meant to tell me things like how many minutes I'd seen and highlight all the good stuff the team had achieved.
It told me how many blocks Dunk and Duffy had made, but didn't make any reference to any goals we'd scored ourselves.

I don’t rate Duffy and never did once we were in the Prem. Always felt he was our biggest weakness.

My two-penneth, for what it's worth: Duffy was a better defender than Webster when the latter arrived, but Webster a better ball playing/carrying defender. Duffy worked well in the early years following promotion, but with a change of ambition, manager and culture came the end of the line with him at the Albion.

I haven't got the stats, but I'm pretty sure he and Dunk prevented a fair few goals that would have led to defeats and, therefore not enough points to avoid relegation. Fine to not rate him, but to say he wasn't good enough for the PL, when he played more than 100 games in the division for Brighton, is a *bit* of a stretch...

I think this whole Duffy and Dunk stuff about how they saved us from relegation is ridiculous. We stayed up as a team. Murray got into double figures let’s not forget.

Not really. Clearly they didn't do it on their own, but their partnership made a difference.

Murray's goals would count for nothing if the defence conceded goals that led to defeats. For example: 'On 4 May, Duffy helped keep a clean sheet where Brighton beat Manchester United 1–0 at home to secure their Premier League status.' There are loads of other examples, plus he chipped in with goals himself, so...

Duffy was very good in the first two Premier League years when the team was largely set up to highlight his strengths. When Potter came in and implemented his change of style, it wasn't really to Duffy's benefit so he moved on but he came back to us and was excellent again. He can be very proud of his time here and his role in our success on the pitch for the last 6 years. Good luck to him for his future career.

You could say the exact same but in complete reverse.

A fabulous servant for our promotion and under CH in the premier league. A change of style didn't play to his strengths but he would improve several sides who play a different system. I thought Fulham was a good loan move but maybe Bournemouth or Forest is better suited to him.

TB doesn't stand in anyone's way when a chance to move on is presented. He will set a fair price and allow any individual to pursue greener pastures, which in turn is a contributing factor to any great player wishing to use us as a stepping stone. An ethos that TB is keen to keep

had assumed if was fit the loan would get cancelled and he would sign permanently elsewhere - possible not possible re the 3 clubs a season rule - though don't think he played for us this season?

Potter and RDZ insist on ball-playing centre backs. Duffy is not a ball playing centre back. It’s really as simple as that.

Yes indeed, TB is a generous employer. Duffy will be allowed to go in the summer (probably on a free). In the meantime, he has a job to do for The Albion. He is blocking Fulhan getting in a player in loan who might just make the difference between them pipping The Albion for a European place or not.
So for the next four months (hardly a life-time, is it?) he is agent Duffy (and being very well paid for it). 'Suck it up' is, I think, an appropriate 21st. century phrase.

I loved Shane with all my heart, and agree he played a huge part in our promotion to, and consolidation in, the PL. but the idea he could have adapted to Potter (let alone De Zerbi) Ball is insanely optimistic. IMV.

Possibly, but we will never know. I do find it fanciful that he could become a lithe and quick thinking ball playing center half though whatever the circumstances. This is quite a transformation.

I’m just really impressed that he kept up a consistent level with us despite the chaos in the background, perhaps being so close to Dunky helped him out. Sure, he made a few errors but he was like a wall under Hughton’s low block. Not a lot got through.

i often remember him fondly at attacking corners , rising like a migrating salmon , sweat flying off his head as he deposited the ball deep into the stands.

his defensive heading was second to none.......he was a favourite of mine.

He was our player of the season a few years ago and formed an incredible partnership with Lewis at the back.

When we've been double digit points adrift at the bottom of the Football League 96/97 optimism as an Albion fan is a pre requisite.

The Mail (yes, I know) are reporting that Fulham will turn the Duffy loan into a permanent move so they can free up a loan slot to bring in Cedric Soares from Arsenal on loan.
