[Football] Could Brighton turn into a Spurs? Or Ajax?

Your recruitment the past 5 years has been incredible.

Spurs got to 'big 6' status based on making really smart signings and good manager choices, there was no difference between them and the likes of West Ham and Newcastle until their recruitment took over (Bale, Modric, Poch, Eriksen etc). If Brighton keep on buying top talent cheap and flipping them, do you think you can eventually turn into a top 6 team?

Caicedo, Mc Allister, Adingra, Enciso, Buonanotte.. all incredibly talented and exciting.

With increasing numbers of petro states buying EPL clubs, also US multi billionaires, there’ll be more clubs following the financial cheating of ManC. No one seems to give a damn, even Ten Hag commented that new more spend happy owner’s will be great for them (there was a time when managers NEVER mentioned club finances).

Bottom line, giving clubs 20 to 25 top players to see out a 38 game season.

So I don’t see that happening to the Albion. In no way a squad to cope with injuries and win 20+ games.

But it’s fine. I’m happy with a mid-table club run by an exemplary owner and CEO.

Being a top ten side with the occasional cup foray is setting up some incredible nose bleed inducing heights for us older generation...the chance to dip our toes into a european comp could cause a few heads to explode as well. Top ten is good and honest work. Top six is silly, entitled monopoly money

Exactly, losing Winstanley, Ashworth & McCauley in a short space of time will be interesting to see if it continues

Really? I thought Spurs were always bigger than Sham and Newc?

Unfortunately, no. Especially when rich clubs just come and buy the people we have who build our team (except of course for Bloom, who is the most important)

Unfortunately every season we’ll lose our best 2 or 3 players. We’d need to get very lucky to break into top six, but you never know. Really like Mitoma and Sarmiento too. UTA.

We are already a lot better than the current Ajax team. And Ajax don't have much coming through at the moment. So yes to that one.

Ummm why should we want to be a Spurs or an Ajax? (whatever that means). Personally l'm more than happy with our currect recruitment structure. Why try and mend something that aint broke, and works very well for us as it is.

Afraid not - we’ll never be that big & consistent but that’s fine.

We’re in the best part of our history now - won’t last forever but we’re in good hands for the near future.

I remember buzzing when we spent £125k on Craig Davies and he scored on his debut wearing number 25 (I think)… man…

We could become top six team if the pertodollar franchises bugger off to join a petrodollar super league. While we are stuck with them though we are probably limited to dreaming of top 10 and the odd European foray.

Mr Berry posts on here I believe - what a hero - and what a moment that was. Was it £250k we won? He was a weird one though CKR as he went on to have a fairly decent career. I remember meeting him pissed up and him and Albert Jarrett were loving getting recognised… Ah Alby Jarrett - I used to get the train from Lewes to Preston Park with him several times - to games… madness we’ve just won the World Cup…

We’ll hover mid-table for now, punching above our weight (ie budget), continually rinsing top 6 teams when they nick our best players (see Arsenal, Chelsea), only to leave them steaming when we replace with someone better (see Cucurella/Estupinan and Bissouma/Caicedo), pocketing the cash, investing where we need to and becoming sustainable despite the PL wage nonsense. We won‘t every truly compete with a state-owned petro-club, but we’ll fvcking love giving them a bloody nose every now and again.
