I really like your thinking. However, do we really need two holding midfielders with a back 3 against a side looking to predominantly attack through it’s wing backs?

In addition, if Saka is playing as a wing-back, he will need too service from a centreback. The man to do that is White on the right recreating the White-Lamptey axis which allowed the later to play pushed up so dramatically in the EPL. This will certainly pin back Germany’s wingback on our right side.

I’d have Mount alongside Phillips in the centre tying to replicate our Bissouma-Lallana or Groß partnership. Grealish plays where he wants and Trippier has to start to take advantage of all the free kicks Jack cheats, I mean wins for us.

Stones anchors the back 3 with his terrific long passing with Maguire surging forward at LCB.

That’s a win for England with me (or Potter) in charge and rightly so!

Similar thinking to me. I would play Mount as the more attacking option in front of the back three. Rice and Mount in midfield for me.

Pickford
White - Stones - Maguire
Trippier - Mount - Rice - Saka
Grealish - Sterling
Kane

The hype got going early for this one, Talkshite pundits were already arguing over team selection at 07.10 this morning.

Please just win. If we knock Germany out of a tournament for the first time since '66, I'll be a happy man, and won't mind whatever happens in the rest of the tournament.

And yet more good news, the England Band will be back at Wembley, I think it's at Mr Southgates request.

Please tell me that's a joke, it's been so nice not hearing that dirge! I'm sure Crodo will be happy though.

I think the question is which England player is going to miss the decisive penalty? My money is on Kane to miss the first, if he's still on the pitch by that point, Germany to score all of theirs and then Kyle Walker to miss the one that knocks us out.

My reaction to Gary Neville's team, in the style of Krept and Konan:

Ole, Ole
Grealish not there
Foden nowhere
Total despair
Ole Ole
Three at the back
Got no attack
Kane's on crack
Ole, Ole
Big booty girl gonna whine with it
Defence ain't got Nathaniel Clyne in it
Southgate, mate, are you fine with it?
Cos Germany be sailing up the Rhine with it
Ole, Ole.

I really hope that Southgate takes the lesson from Switzerland last night and sets the England team up to really go for it from the start . That means in my opinion starting both grealish & Saka.

That’s England’s best chance of winning .

Do you agree or would you rather Foden & mount start ?

Half and half, Grealish and Mount. Don't think Saka will get a lot of joy out of Kimmich, save him for impact sub. Switch Sterling to right, Grealish on left and Mount central. Suppose depends on whether Mount is a realistic pick as won't have been training with the team till yesterday I think.
