we dont most of the time, thats why data is pseudonymised. it can be reversed, via a third party with controls, for appropriate uses. GP records provides a very rich history of conditions, with treatments and comorbidities over time, valuable to good research.

most valuable yes. I think what's concerning is the opportunity, which doesn't currently exist., for the less scrupulous 'researchers' to just bung a few quid and get all the access they need for all the wrong reasons. A cynical opinion brought about with extremely good reason.

In extremis we have governement which long since sold its soul to the devil, selling off our NHS then selling off our data so huge swathes of the population can't even afford to buy any care.

it does exist, its just currently labourious to go round to GPs and sign them up for access.

If you have not heard about this, please read the following article. The government is planning to have all GP records collected into a single source, and then use that data pool for a vareity of reasons. Including selling it for commercial reasons. You can opt out if you print out a form and take it to your GP (ridiculous) by June 23rd (ridiculous). Otherwise, everything you have ever shared with your GP will be available for sale to god-knows who - remember this includes anything you have said in the past or may in the future. Bear in mind that if god-forbid we end up with privatised healthcare, insurers will know all of this history, it may significantly affect your future self, or your children, etc.

I'm not making political statements here. I'm just suggesting that if you don't want your current and future information sold, then you might want to opt out.

Thanks for the link. Have downloaded the form - will take it to my GP surgery, where doubtless they'll never have heard of it!

Peace & love x
Not all of this is accurate if you read the NHS website properly

So the NHS know who and where I am for Covid injections, but if you want to opt out of data sharing they strangely don't know who I am.
Hancock just putting barriers in the way to avoid more people opting out, so that the amount available for backhanders doesn't drop due to lower amount of data being available.

This use of our anonymous data is a great thing and well overdue.

Don't believe the fake news.

You would be amazed how backwards the NHS is in its data analysis. Paper records are still being used because many hospital trusts use different IT systems. Many are still heavily reliant on fax machines.

This data is a goldmine of information that has the potential to save lives. Unfortunately the NHS doesn't have the money, capacity or expertise to make use of it. That is why it is important for private companies, experts in this kind of data analysis to step in. The only problem with this shift is it's about 20 years too late.

End of thread. Everything you need in order to stop panicking is right here in this post. From start to finish this entire thread has consisted of hot air blown about by misinformed numpties incapable of finding and appraising accurate information. Is it any wonder we end up voting for incompetent governments and silly nationalist ideas when we react like this?

I think it has more to do with misinformed numpties desperate to find Government conspiracy to confirm their political bias......

It appears you have some very good information on this, so I'd appreciate a few tips as to the private companies that are experts in this kind of data analysis (purely from an investment point of view).

Obviously, I've opted out but any tips would be great, because I wouldn't want to be a misinformed numpty

Worked perfectly for me - but there are two different opt outs here; you need to download a form for the other one and post or email it to your GP. Links are available on this thread.

The two major players, and they are already working with the NHS, are IBM and Google.

The major pharma companies are also looking at diversifying into tech and data so expect them to be involved in the future.

did you read that they agree to "sharing of data for legitimate healthcare planning and research purposes", and "sharing of data must be transparent", quite reasonably. however they dont acknowledging they (GPs) already provide such data.

The NHS website makes it clear that NHS Digital will never sell the data. I think that you and they should read the website quite carefully before trying to scare people. When I first opened this and the other thread I was concerned and sent off an e mail to my GP surgery asking for more information. I now feel like an idiot because I was misled by tin hat wearing conspiracy theorists who see Government corruption everywhere. Won’t happen again.

Its amazing how in the world of GDPR, across so many different types of information, its so easy to just " Allow" your data to be accessed if you are not 100% on the ball. My company, a bunch of tax avoiding offshore shysters of THE highest order are so absolutely petrified of GDPR breaches that we have to have updated procedures and online tuition to avoid even the slightest chance of a breach.... here we are " All your NHS history being flogged to who knows who " but WE have to jump through hoops to stop it... incredible
