[Albion] Do you think Wellbeck will stay next season

Not quite sure how "Holcraft" turned into "Welbeck" but I guess there's some logic in there somewhere..

I suspect that site has simply pasted the wrong info onto the page. There's a place in Nottinghamshire called Welbeck, while a Beck is a name for a stream / watercourse and I'd guess you get wells along watercourses. So the Holcroft link has no logic to me at all.

Interestingly Welbeck is a much more common surname in Ghana than England, though as a former British colony I imagine the origin is still the same.

Yeah.

Can you see the club going again, unchanged, considering how this entire season has panned out?

I completely agree with Stumpy, I just don't see where those 10-15 goals are coming from 'down the middle'.

Sadly because of how the season has gone there's no value in offloading one of the others, so for want of a better word, the club are 'stuck' with them.

One of them ought to be able to provide a decent return as back up striker (I said that 12 months ago, as well).
But for someone to come in, someone has to go.

No, I can't see the club going with the same again.

However, I also can't see them being willing not to fight to keep what appears to be the most effective striker out of the 4.

If Andone goes, which in all likelihood he will, we'll be bringing someone in, maybe even 2 if Connolly drops back to being an U23 waiting in the wings again, or a loan spell.

He's staying someone needs to provide company to Lallana in the medical room.

Lallana has missed being in the squad or starting - due to injury - in only 7 games out of 36 this season. (groin strains)
Welbeck has missed 6 games out of the 30 he's been available since joining us late into the season post transfer window. (knee problem) .

Too little tinkering huh?

How the times change

For sure.

Minimal dicking around at the back also. And no more voluntarily reducing the side to ten men by deploying two players at every corner. Maybe Gormless Benny just graduated in Football Management 101 to add to his impressive array of holistic qualifications

I hope so too. Just hope he doesn't get lured way to China or USA on silly money. Think he still has a lot to offer in the Prem.

I assume that any delay in negotiations was due to waiting (by both parties) to see if we were safe. Hopefully the ink is currently drying.

Don't think this really exists and more. Those leagues are broke and have wage caps.

Now available in Hove
FWIW, I think he will stay providing the offer is reasonable. He's got a partner and a young daughter - although his long term residence is probably near Manchester, I'm sure they are after a bit of stability. They upped sticks from Hertfordshire to Hove last year, so I would imagine wouldn't want to do the same this year. He seems to be enjoying his football here, is well thought of in the squad, is looked after medically and is getting minutes, and goals on the pitch. To me it all points to him staying, unless an unbelievable offer comes in from elsewhere.

Why's that then?
Have I missed some decent transfer gossip?

I really like him on the left of the front three, but not particularly as the main front man. Definitely want him to stay, but really want a better focal point up top. If Welbeck can get 8-10 goals from the left that would be a great return, especially if we can get 10-15 from someone else.

Welbeck is a class act. 77 international games at all levels and 27 goals, especially at Full Level, where he played 42 times and scored 16. We need that quality and class upfront. No one else in the squad could have made that run on Saturday. He is capable of at least 8 goals if he plays most of the season. Maupay is capable of around 10 and Trossard should get around 6 -7. Thats where the majority of our goals come from and thats where we should expect another 6-7 goals. Trossard has definitely underperformed in that department.
We then need about another 6 goals on top of that to start climbing the table. March and Lamptey are capable of more, as are Lallana, Mac, Moder and Alzate. This present squad are capable of more goals. Its all about a change of mindset in the final third. Too much overplaying. Too many touches. We need to be more quick and simple and get behind defences more ( March and Lamptey will help )
I don't think we need 10-15 goals from a new face ( v difficult to find )....another 6 would make a big difference plus an extra 6-8 from our existing players. That would get us up to Villa levels and a similar league position.

Does he ? Are they really looking for someone like Welbeck this summer ?

Would be surprised if West Ham aren't sniffing around. Antonio struggles with injury, if he's out they are lacking in the forward department. If any club was a serious contender to sign him it would be WHU to be honest.

I really hope so. He's our best striker.

Everyone talks about an "upgrade" on Maupay. I don't agree. We need a striker better than Maupay and Welbeck, to be our main guy. But we still need Maupay and Welbeck.

It's a long season and we have strikers who shouldn't be on or around the first team (yet) - namely Connolly and Zeqiri.

So with the Bissouma money, an attempt at a goalscorer would be essential - the main guy, with Maupay and Welbeck getting lots of action too.

Agreed.
I'm also sure that a "replacement" let alone an "improvement" would cost a significant sum. Look at the R.Brewster situation.
