No issue at all with female pundits. Some are are good some are not. Like male pundits....Just because someone has played football at a high level doesn't mean they will be any good in the media, male or female. Its a bit like saying all top footballers will become great managers. Many top managers weren't top players (Ferguson, Wenger, Klopp etc).

My issue with Alex Scott is that she is rubbish and her ever increasing profile is due to cultural diversity rather than the fact as to whether she is any good at her job. Surely whatever the views of modern society, that can't be right. You appoint the best person for any job rather than use it as a box ticking exercise.

You should have said "I think she is rubbish" because I and it seems many others think that she isn't.

For all the knuckle-draggers frothing at the mouth about her, it's very instructive to read how much work she's put into being becoming a pundit and broadcaster. Not just doing a degree in sports journalism (how many of the male pundits have done that) but putting in the hard yards of sitting in the press box and recording studio watching and learning from other people.

She's a dedicated woman who's spent time perfecting her craft, rather than joshing around on the golf course with a bunch of ex-pros.

Broadcasters often go for overkill when they feel they've discovered a popular presenter, they start appearing everywhere. In the past - Kaplinsky, Titchmarsh, Dan Baker. Now zzzzzz Jenas.

It’s cause they pay em a fortune and have to get their monies worth. Hence you end up with Richard Hammond presenting history, home improvement, cookery and gardening programmes as well as motor ones. Kills credibility. They’ll pop up doing the weather next...

I don't read social media due to the number of "knuckle dragging racists" balanced off by the politically correct woke brigade on the other side - what's the point?. They are almost as bad as each other.

I have no time for giving people jobs because of what they represent as opposed to whether they can actually do it. This doesn't just pertain to Scott, it is a general observation - and yes, it is my own opinion.

I can kind of understand why she’s a poor pundit though. Being the first woman to be on Sky/MOTD must’ve been very hard and I imagine she wouldn’t have wanted to rock the boat much with her analysis. Can you imagine the backlash if she’d have given a detailed critique of a player’s defensive abilities in the style of Neville or Carragher? I imagine there might be an element of doubt or fear that prevents her giving that kind of in-depth analysis on a team or player and instead she always plays it very safe - to the point where she doesn’t offer anything insightful. In some respects she was just mirroring a few of the male pundits who also fail on that front. Her and Jamie Redknapp are very similar.

Hopefully she’ll develop as a presenter where that safer, friendly style is more appropriate.

Very good points here, and I'm sure Alex Scott will be a perfectly fine presenter. My problems with her have been her bland and uninformative punditry - and I have the same objection to many male pundits who tell us very little that any football fan can't see for him or herself - Shearer stole a living on that front for far too long.

She occasionally makes a decent tactical point but what she can't offer is any insight into what it's like to play men's Premier League or Champions League football. Okay, she may have marked Jill Scott at a few set plays, but that's not the same as having Duncan Ferguson breathing down your neck. We can all see when a team switches from three at the back to a flat back four but we don't know what is likely to have been said in the dressing room at half time. Carragher and Neville, for example, were in the middle of some of the most intense matches in recent football history and played for top managers. She can't give us that.

Mark Chapman is my idea of a good presenter because he doesn't pretend to know everything and asks the ex-pros the questions we would want to know the answers to. Lineker probably does know but asks the questions on our behalf anyway.

OK I can not let this go. WTF do you mean by lifestyle CHOICE here, the ONLY choice here is the footballer part of it. I think there is ample proof that she definitely was a footballer .When did you CHOOSE your sexuality or ethnicity?

You have then labelled the poster as a member of an amalgamous lump called 'the left' and made assumptions about them as an individual based upon a label that they didn't choose for themselves. Then you've adopted stereotypes about the class of the massive disparate group of individuals who shop in Iceland and/or read The Sun.
