Statistics are odd though, aren't they? Capping that at 8 years instead of 7 rules out Leicester.

If you look at total seasons spent in the PL then Villa, Newcastle and West Ham do well.

You've picked a period to suit your narrative.

How else could I present how long the current 20 teams have been in the league!? :lolol:

I haven’t capped it, that’s what it is.

If I made it 7 it would be the same stat! The only change would be the last time ManCity weren’t in it - so you would be only 6 teams have been in it for the last 12 years or more or whatever it is since MAnCity came back up.

I’ve said consecutive seasons, Leicester have had 4 separate spells in the PL over 29 years.

You said "Only 7 teams of the present 20 have been in the PL for the past 8 years or more."

If you make that "past 7 years" that's not true is it? And It lets in our inconvenient friends Leicester, doesn't it?

And why is this not, at least, as accurate?

I couldn’t say 7 years ‘OR MORE’ though could I, that’s 8 years and more until you get to ManCity’s promotion year. Then your down to 6 teams.

I'm going to have to finally step in here and engage with you - so well done for that.

Can you please direct me to said criticism.

As I'm acutely self aware that seems remarkably out of character so I either need to explain myself better (fully IN character) or apologize.

Been waiting an hour to make amends.

Ok so it's been a couple of hours since I asked vagabond to show the hypocrisy of which he accused me.

When he does reply I wouldn't want anyone thinking I was avoiding that, I've just gone to bed.
But rest assured I will pick it up in the morning.

Nighty night all.

The Premier League is 7 Teams + 13 Guests.

You just have to aim to be a long term guest, rather than a dirty weekend on the back of collecting vouchers from a red top one.

Not against your posts, but it can change.

Who would’ve thought that:

Chelski before Bates latterly then Abramavich went on huge spending sprees, that they’d feature as a European super power? In 1994 8,900 went to a home league game. The lows for Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and ManU are several times that.

ManC were hopeless for decades. Then petro dollars changed all that.

If the PL had allowed the Saudis had taken over Newcastle last autumn, they’d now have more money that Chelski or ManC.

Any reasonably sized club, is a takeover away from buying trophies.

It won't be what anyone wants – I am just pointing out that only 7 sides presently haven't been out of this league in the last 8 years.

For every Leicester, there are the Derby's, Blackpool's, Huddersfield's, Norwich's, Reading's, Swansea's, Wigan's, Bournemouth's, M'Boro's, Stoke's, Blackburn's, Cardiff's, QPR's, Bolton's, Barnsley's, Watford's...all within the last decade, all with hopes, dreams and aspirations.

Leicester just got lucky by signing Kante and Mahrez.

Those 2 signings, who cost a combined £8.5m, took them from the championship, where we beat them 3-1 and 4-1 in 2013/14, to winning the Premier League in 2015/16.

Just a good manager and a couple of key signings can break the top six hegemony.

I can't really get into the discussion, for many reasons one being, as said I fundamentally agree and am only picking up on semantics.
The other and far more pressing is Swansman and Vagabond's anti Potter radar will already be beeping and I really can't be doing with their 'you're not fan enough' nonsense.

As said I'm all in on the project and there's still the possibility that this team will finish the season comfortably in phase II (the not looking over the shoulder, while hoping for other results phase).
There's also the possibility of losing 2-1 on Monday evening, to a late winner, and be staring down the barrel of relegation

I just keep getting the feeling that in 5 years time I'll still be told that although the Albion are 4th from bottom, I shouldn't raise an eyebrow because it's a "long term project".
Hard to disagree with any of this, Barber comes across as reasonably intelligent or so I thought, he must know league positioning is 99% based on budget yet he keeps the season tickets sales rolling in by attempting to sell top ten and European football to the faithful.

Until the playing budget increases we won’t progress as Mr B would have as believe and the long term project will end either back in the championship or a relegation battle similar to the last four seasons.

Personally I’m not really bothered what league we play in football used to be fun a break from the daily grind nowadays we can’t criticise players, manager or the clubs decisions without some jumped up super fan telling us we aren’t proper fans and obviously as thick as pig shit because Tony Bloom says so

It’s all a bit don’t worry Rodney this time next year we will be millionaires.

“if only you’d mentioned it before boss...

Imagine if he had suggested to Maty Ryan that he save a few shots.

This is the problem though, how can a manager find time for all these conversations?

Emotional Intelligence?

Yeah of course. Villa weren’t ever a team to be relegated and challenged a few times, they’ve effectively swapped with say ManCity.

Someone could pump money into a Newcastle, or whoever and it changes again. However it doesn’t change the overall point that staying in this league for any length of time is a tough ask. Statistically if you get 5 or more seasons in a stint - you’ve done really well.

I was hoping to be drawing a line, one way or another, under vagabond's accusations of my hypocrisy, this morning.
But still nothing is forthcoming.

Still plenty of time.

Spot on sir

Whether it was having a few beers in the Welly and jumping in a cab to Withdean at 2,30 to watch us play someone like Tranmere sat in the open air with the ball bobbling round a parklike surface, or heading off to the Amex on the train, can in hand waiting to play Liverpool on a carpet, football's supposed to be a day out. A laugh. Time away from the stress of the week. But that's for us, the fans. Obviously Bloom and Barber want us to play with the big boys, but doing it with a bottom six budget is going to be a really, really big ask.

Having people who spend their life creating binary groups that take no account of the nuances of modern football ("I'm in the Potter Ins!") just so they can "win" an argument on the internet is immensely sad and very divisive.

Fortunately, by August we'll all hopefully be back in the Temple of Bloom, drunk as Lords and no one will give a shiny shit.

Harsh to say that if you are “Potter In” you are automatically trying to win an argument, surely works the same way If you are “Potter out”

I have been called divisive for the polls (that I have agreed to stop ) but I am loving the sneering for suggesting that you are some kind of fool to argue that you want to stick with the manager, even during rough times

For some reason every time I see the thread title I misread it as "Potter's Phenomenal Cottage", as a result I now imagine Graham Potter lives in beautiful cottage with a heli pad, swimming pool, golf course etc...

I can't pretend to know how to explain the Leicester phenomenon, but I know what it wasn't - 2 good signings and bob's yer uncle. If it were that sinple every club would win the league every year.

I agree. Whether to stick with the manager for now or sack him immediately is a completely binary issue, and those who want him sacked now are fools. Fact. It is no more nuanced than virginity, and like virginity things may change at some point.

Absolutely this. The football always came a poor second, whether it be at The Goldstone, Withdean, or The Amex. It's always been all about the meeting up with mates and sharing human interaction. Hopefully always will be

No, but 2 players of that quality is probably enough for most mid table teams to break into the top 6.

What Leicester did was some sort of Juju magic.
