12,5m is indeed big money outside of the top 6 or 7 leagues, impressive money. I know there was talk in Poland about whether Moder or Karbownik would be the first 10m transfer from the Ekstraklasa, nice to see both ending up in Brighton.

As for promising young Polish strikers I think Bartosz Bialek looks very promising, unfortunately Wolfsburg got their hands on him.

You are very well informed  Yeah, about the money, the average is still increasing in Ekstraklasa but it only concerns young Polish players that already showed they capability among senior players. Foreign players even if they show quality go max. for 2-3M and mainly MLS or the East (Russia, Turkey etc.). Only month ago Salzburg bought young central defender Piątkowski for 6M Euro from Raków Częstochowa (wisely built and managed team, by the way). We are getting used to these sums and they might incrase because of growing quality of an average Polish player in top5, not only because Lewandowski seems to be a machine. Therefore, beside aforementioned top7, big money occasionally visits Czech Republic (but only Slavia, Sparta and sometimes Victoria and Balkans (also the same few clubs). In Poland singular clubs are not that successful nowadays but everything is more balanced level-wise in the league.

You managed to buy Karbownik for only 4-5M because a few things happened together:
- Legia had worse time and was ruled out in 4th round of EL
- Legia has debts and sold nobody that summer for significant money
- Karbownik's position was switched to CM instead of LWB where he performed so well at the beginning because his manager claimed that this is his original position and he will be sold for better sum as a CM. It didn't work very well
- That was the end of the transfer window

Just 4-5 months earlier Karbownik was the hottest deal in Poland and Moder just played his first true games in Lech, mostly from the bench. But sometimes "a few months" in football changes everything

Yes Polish football seems to be on the rise (finally). Ten-fifteen years ago clubs in Sweden could sign decent players from Poland (like the great striker and even greater drinker Igor Sypniewski), today its the reverse with a player like Jesper Karlström joining Lech Poznan a couple of months ago. Poland with its population should have the potential to become a good football nation and I think signings from Ekstraklasa (as well as other central/eastern leagues like the Czech) to greater leagues will increase - today you have to pay £20-25m for a decent talent in the Dutch Eredivisie or Belgian Jupiler League, while you can get the same level of talent from eg Poland for £10m less.

Funny you mentioned Rakow because I read in some Polish interview that Karbownik was going there on loan just days before some Legia player got injured and he got the chance in the first team.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Karbo. In the case of Moder, I think he will be an important part of the first team next season. For Karbo it looks like he might maybe need to go on loan to the Championship for six months or a year, but who knows. I'm sure there is a plan for him.

Really interesting background. Thank you for sharing with us.

Well a fantastic first Prem start from Moder and, importantly, it allowed us to play 3 at the back, and keep BDB on the bench

What makes you think it is a Championship loan? The club have gone public with their ‘taking their time’ approach, mentioning his injury shortly before signing for us

By the looks of it Karbo is more of a high risk high reward type of player than Moder is meaning it could be more difficult to give him a real chance without risking too much, and perhaps he might have to adapt to English football with a couple of months or a year in the Championship. That said, I dont really know and its pure speculation.

Fair enough. IMHO he will NOT be loaned out. He can play both wing-back roles and even midfield, so will be in OUR squad

Gross's replacement? Gross is maturing like a fine wine. Business as usual - Cruyff turn, tick, Assist, tick, Great engine and involvement for 90 minutes, tick. Too early to write him off just yet.

Has Gross increased his Cruyff turn quota lately? Normally watch him for his obligatory one, but swear he had two yesterday :)

Nice and easy song to remember without the words on the big screen as well .

Lola ! La La La La Moder

Nooooo. He's known to the rest of the players (and presumably his mates) as Kuba. Thus:

Kuuuuuuuba
Kuba and Lallaaaaaaana :cheery:

Great signing - if he’s that good out of position with barely any game time - he will be awesome in midfield once he’s played a few more games .

Thought he was really poor second half. Will be interestng to see what position he really plays as don't think left wing back is his position. Does a credible job (minus that second half) of course.

I thought he tired in the second half but not surprising given his involvement with Poland.

He does love a touchline back heel. Good to have some competition for the Gross turn.
