What is this obsession with sending Connolly out on loan to the Championship? He's already a Premier League player with us and once he gets his physicality settled and his body finishes maturing, we'll have a star on our hands. I agree that we’ll have a star on our hands but I think he needs to be taken out of the EPL fishbowl and get some serious game time and goals in the Championship. His all round game is pretty good actually but he is not getting the minutes and experience a young player needs. In addition to that, some of his finishing is poor, he is costing us points by not hitting the back of the net enough when presented with big chances. This is a confidence issue I believe because he certainly has the talent.

I genuinely believe that we could get a top 10 EPL striker back in the summer of 22 if he has a prolific season in the division below and rediscovers his scoring confidence.

I see what you are saying, and that does sound a good approach for him for his confidence to score. He will have more time on the ball and can perfect his style.

Also, as you rightly pointed out, game time. You can't improve if you're not playing regularly.

Would he sacrifice a few games in the Prem for more games a league lower for a season?

Maybe a promotion chasing team would tempt him.....

That's the problem, I don't think he does look like a Premier League player at the moment. He's physically weak and his decision making is poor.

Look at all of the top English Premier League strikers who have been in or close to recent England squads - Kane, Vardy, DCL, Ings, Bamford, Wilson, Watkins, Barnes - they all came up the leagues or had loans at lower league levels. The only one who didn't is Rashford and he's more of a winger anyway. (I appreciate Connolly is Irish but he's been in England since he was 16 so the same principle applies).

I think it's desperately what he needs to properly learn the game and his position. He's just not good enough for us at the moment. He only needs to look at that list to see what they're doing now and how the lower leagues benefited them. He's clearly got the talent but I think he needs a spell away for his development. Glenn Murray is another player he can look at for inspiration - I'm certain he would have struggled if he'd been played in the Premier league at 19/20 without having those years of experience learning the game at lower levels.

To be honest, this is what I think as well. Based on very little actual basis, but having been following the game for decades - think about how many young players have burst onto the scene in the PL and impressed as 18/19 only to not kick on and have the career everyone expected they would have.

The one who always jumps out as me is Francis Jeffers. Even Arsene Wenger was fooled by him.

He's a talented player with the potential to be a good premier league player but he's not there yet. A year of playing week in, week out, scoring goals will do him the world of good. What [MENTION=3462]Springal[/MENTION] says about him not wanting to go out on loan is a worry but he just needs to speak to his good friend Ben White to understand the benefits of a well placed and productive loan spell.

If Connolly is half as good as he thinks he is, he would absolutely tear up the Championship. I really think it would be a good move for him. Get 20+ goals then either come back to us or get sold on for £25m.

At his age the absolute best thing for him is to be playing week in, week out.

The highlights package comprises 5 mins of him just banging in goals. And none of the goals appear to be repeated from several angles and they haven't bothered including loads of near misses.

And most encouragingly, about half the goals are from about 6 yards out.
Senór Borré looks to be a genuine 'fox in the box'.

Have you noticed all the chances he misses are when he has time to think and when he doesn’t [first time hits, difficult half chances] he buries?! Funny that a striker left to be a striker instead of trying to be a trequarista does his job.

The only difference I can see is that when he hits it at least the net moves.

The point is we very rarely create those kind of chances with our possession based, slow build up. He wouldn’t thrive on our system.

I don't know about that. He seems very much like a 'right place right time' striker, which would probably benefit us quite a lot as I don't think we have that kind of player at the minute. I think we could still do with a target man to help us break down those low block teams like West Brom, but to be honest, with the amount of chances we create anyone who's semi-competent in front of goal will be able to grab a few for us
