It is necessary to have male and female categories?

Are these distinctions made for any musical purpose or are they just so the Brits can have 2 awards for best singer?

Maybe the category could be split by a different measure, like age range?

Here's what the English language says. Gender - male or female as defined by whether you have a Y chromosome (male) or not (female). There are no third options.

The English language???

This is the WHO definition:

Gender refers to the characteristics of women, men, girls and boys that are socially constructed. This includes norms, behaviours and roles associated with being a woman, man, girl or boy, as well as relationships with each other. As a social construct, gender varies from society to society and can change over time.

I think a lot of posters are mixing up the term ‘gender’ with ‘sex’.

Probably working!
Think again, this is what science says:

“The available research indicates that the brain structure of androphilic trans women with early-onset gender dysphoria is closer to the brain structure of cisgender women's and less like cisgender men's.[2] It also reports that both androphilic trans women and trans women with late-onset gender dysphoria who are gynephilic have different brain phenotypes, and that gynephilic trans women differ from both cisgender male and female controls in non-dimorphic brain areas.” wiki

Certainly not backing you up if you are referring to their gender (between the ears not the legs). If you are referring to their sex, I take it you have intimate knowledge of their undercarriage?

This is interesting.
What would happen if he committed a crime punishable by imprisonment?
Would he go to a men’s jail?

No, they should build a jail just for Sam Smith, maybe in the Falklands Islands. (joke).

Imprisonment should be by sex not gender with the exception of hermaphrodites.

Indeed. The world must revolve around these idiots, 4000 years of evolution is all wrong and it's shocking humanity has only just discovered the 46 other gender classifications in the last 7 years - inc. SS's. Who knew?!

I’m all for being inclusive but like most people I can’t be bothered trying to work out people who don’t know whether there male or female . We fought and won the 2nd world war , with today’s ridiculous nonsense we would probably have lost .

No one has any backbone and no ones allowed to question idiotic behaviour for fear of causing offence. It’s all beyond parody . People may get offended, so what deal with it - that’s life . With the exception of racism life was way better in the 1980’s .

We wouldn't be allowed to fight WW2 today on the grounds of H&S
