As my old nan would have said, "He doesn't know whether he's Arthur or Martha".

Wary as I am of falling foul of NSC's finest, I have to agree with you.

He's a bloke, whether he likes it or not; that's biology.
He may be homosexual - that's fine.
He may be bi-sexual - that's fine.
He may be asexual - that's fine (but maybe a bit sad - missing a lot of fun!).
He may wish he was born a different gender - a tough one, but it can be altered by surgery I believe - how well I'm not sure.

But to come up with this bollox - well, it's just bollox. Sorry.

He is male, so should be eligible to qualify for the male category?

I think science backs me up here.

Think again, this is what science says:

“The available research indicates that the brain structure of androphilic trans women with early-onset gender dysphoria is closer to the brain structure of cisgender women's and less like cisgender men's.[2] It also reports that both androphilic trans women and trans women with late-onset gender dysphoria who are gynephilic have different brain phenotypes, and that gynephilic trans women differ from both cisgender male and female controls in non-dimorphic brain areas.” wiki

Certainly not backing you up if you are referring to their gender (between the ears not the legs). If you are referring to their sex, I take it you have intimate knowledge of their undercarriage?

If science could learn to express itself in clearly understandable language, science might be doing a better job! Unfortunately gobbledygook is not a recognised subject in GCSEs.

Simply put, your gender is your brain, not your body or sexual organs.

If you are sure that they have a male brain, that’s your opinion. There has been some great research into how embryos form and that possibly in trans people, certain hormones are not getting to their brains in the early development, hormones that ensure that the gender (brain) is the same as the sexual organs.

science does matter any more, its all about what people want to be. have to roll with the punches if there isnt a catagory for them in the awards. probably will be next year, to avoid offending.

This is what three medical doctors who worked on one paper say. It’s a big leap to say this is what Science says as if the matter is now settled. They might be right, but a lot more work would need to be done before you can say this is the general consensus.

Scientific papers are published constantly on all sorts of subjects. It doesn’t mean that what they say is now Science and therefore right. It’s not how it works.

Gender is a weasel word and cisgender doubly so.

It’s based on a ridiculous notion that if you’re a man who likes to wear pink frills and lipstick then your gender is female or if you’re a woman who likes donkey jackets and pipes then your gender is male.

It’s quite a restrictive way of looking at things and doesn’t actually mean anything.

Not as simple if this is to be believed. Suppose you can take one or the other view.

Here's what the English language says. Gender - male or female as defined by whether you have a Y chromosome (male) or not (female). There are no third options.

I suppose I am biased in that I have been brought up in an environment that says apart from obviousl physical difference, there is no difference between male and female and that is the reason it is illegal to discriminate between male and female in employment. These people reckon that gender is all in the mind and that the male brain and psyche is significantly different from the female, which means of course that discrimination in employment is perfectly rational and logical and can't reasonably be stopped.

Which is of course why Germaine Greer and other feminists don't like it. And it's very rare I'm on the same side as Germaine Greer!

Just to add to this, there is no doubt that small boys are more likely to like running around shouting their heads off and rolling on the floor, and small girls are more likely to stand around gassing and playing games with rules. That does not mean that all children who run around shouting their heads off and rolling on the floor, are boys. Some of them are girls who like shouting and rolling on the floor. If you don't have a Y chromosome, you are a girl; you can go on and do all the things a stereotype boy does for all of your life, but you are still a girl And there is nothing worng with being a girl, it's a perfectly respectable thing to be. Don't fight it.

It really isn't - your gender is defined at birth, and not by your brain. I recognise that some people are uncomfortable with the gender they are born with, and for some that will be a bigger problem than for others. It doesn't change their biological gender though.

The Brits have called it just right - no 'rethinking' for next year needed.

Backed up by the article I posted above.

Yes, there are very rare scientific anomalies. And yes, he may be an example of one.

But in all probability - he has a penis and an xy chromosome, and so is male.

If he has a vagina and an xx chromosome then I'm sure he will be allowed to compete in the female category. But let's be honest with ourselves here, he doesn't does he.

The Life Of Brian summed it up perfectly.

One things for sure though, Sam Smith is a massive fanny.
