That's down to the economy and general feeling.. Colours can often reflect the mood of the nation, and when times are hard it's all about being discrete - hence the general choice of muted colours on expensive cars

So what inspired the beige cars like so many Allegros back in the day? I’d love to know!

I love cars and often look at some of the colours that people choose, normally VERY vibrant but shit and think “you must have got an absolute bargain on that” I’d need a balaclava to drive some of them

Although I accept that I am a bit of car snob and not in the Audi, BMW look what I’ve bought way though. I just like good looking cars, cheap or expensive. Most of my mates are A-B and cheap to run disciples, it doesn’t matter what it looks like and the badge means nothing either.

My car is an older Luxury car that I got a £11k loan over 5 years to buy. I hope when it is paid off to get a couple of years cheap motoring out of it.

However my wife has just picked up her second brand new Nissan Juke. Her 'old' one was 3 years old and she could either pay the balloon payment on cash is for a new one.

Therefore she now has a stunning vehicle with all of the toys (and then some more on top) it really is incredible what is can do.

She was also able to choose the colour, trim and wheels.

So technically she will never own a car outright while I hope to BUT she gets the latest every 3 years while mine depreciates to nothing and the repair bills will inevitably roll in and it gets stale and boring with old tech.

so there take your pick - older Jaguar or 46 mile on the clock Juke?? - ohh, I could start a pole inside a pole!

Whilst you are on the subject of car buying has any NSC member used Cazoo or Cinch for a purchase? If so are they happy, have after purchase problems and would they recommend them? I'm asking on behalf of my daughter in living in rural Suffolk and few dealers about.

Always done nearly new - 6-9months old. Latest car was £45k with all added bits got for c24k (did trade in so paid a lot less). Did my research got quotes from other dealers up north which are generally £1-2k cheaper than southern dealers. Was going to sell my old car through webuyanycar.com but dealer told me show me your quote and we’ll match it as that’s where they were sending it (car auction house owners) which took hassle out.

Another way is to find the nearly new model of a car that has a new model / upgrade out, when I was looking a Volvo XC60 5/6months old - one the new model (5months old) one the old (6months ) same mileage but £6k difference in price.

Another tip I was told is you can negotiate the price down if taking finance - not done it myself but a mate did it. The dealer gets commission on finance (so they can offer bigger discount) so you buy through finance then I think you have something like a two weeks grace period where you can pay it off at no penalty - need to check the legal / Ts&cs bit on that as it’s just hearsay on my part

Jag any day over a Juke, i still miss my X-Type, and that wasn't even a 'proper' jag according to many!

Riddled with problems, usually expensive. I'd rather have an actual Mondeo, then at least the parts prices aren't a piss take.

Had new, nearly new, older 5-7 years and classic.

Always enjoyed the older higher quality cars, much more luurious and if bought correctly are far far cheaper than new, compare maintenance of £750 - 1500 a year with 150 a month lease payments.

Guesss i was lucky, 7 years and just regular services was all thats needed. Wife decided that it wasn't safe for a baby and a large dog to share the back seat of a saloon

My dad had an Allegro in the 70's which I used to borrow as I lived at home. Fantastic car, top of the range, metallic blue with all the trim and seriously quick. Round steering wheel too. Totally unlike the stereotypes.

Had a 1500 LE back in the day, £35.00 to buy, needed a tie bar mount on front suspension, £15.00. Ran it for 2 years, Equipe Alloys spoiler etc, Brilliant car!

And actually the 1500 was reaosnably quick then, certainly kept up with traffic.

Base Fiesta now owuld blow it away, but try buying one for £50.00!

I drove my cortina to work twice the other week, not particularly enjoyable aas the roads are so bad. At least on two wheels you can swerve most of the ravines, craters and sink holes, although it must look like you're pissed weaving down the road.
