im hopeful that by June we'll have 60% population have been vaccinated, and little point to testing. where would venues hold tens of thousands of people while waiting even an hour?

This is where the idea of testing for entry falls down

Can you imagine holding a few hundred people that have had a few to get into a night club?

Who pays for all the tests/testers?

Where do they go?

If someone tests positive does the whole place shut for the evening ?

Think you've misunderstood slightly - you don't wait an hour - it's an ability to test tens of thousands per hour. The results are available in minutes.

Sorry, late on parade. Anyway, numbers update :

Infections - a big drop - 6,035. Rolling 7 day down 21.2%
Deaths - 144 - likewise (but usually lower at weekends), rolling 7 day down 33.5% (yet again the biggest fall)
Admissions - 1,112 - rolling 7 day down 22.1% (very solid and steady trend)
Vacs - 407k first, 27k second - 20.089 first jabs administered.

A very good news day.

As my man Snoop Dog might say, those cases are dropping like it’s hot.

Yep, I’ve still got what it takes to get down with the kids.

That's great, but guessing the graph was cut off at September for a reason. It's surely not the lowest it's been.

But lowest for 6 months is still good and can only have been caused by one thing, given case number are still quite high

Actually I asked Datatoosee this last time they posted - and they sent me the chart going back to March 2020 when the data first started being compiled. It's been between 3&4k before (August), but does appear the number reported today is the lowest it has been.

Following a tip off from a friend I have just booked my first "jab" for the day after my 62nd birhday at Tonbridge with the follow up at the rural haven of Ticehurst. Thought the booking site was very slick and instantly pinged reminders and emails so that there is little chance of forgetting.

Yes site now accepting all aged 60 and over, I booked for Wednesday week at the Brighton Centre this morning. The details pinged on my mobile before I had finished writing down the information.

“Wow - today’s reported cases figure of 5,455 is 48.7% down on last week’s equivalent. Remember that last Monday’s number was higher than expected - but even so!”

Seven-day averages:

Today: 7,980
Yesterday: 8,721 (-8.5%)
A week ago: 11,187 (-28.7%)
9 Jan peak: 59,660 (-86.6%)

“Today’s reported deaths figure of 104 is a 41.6% down on last Monday and the lowest we’ve seen since Monday 26 October (102). More evidence the fall is accelerating.”
