Sanchez - 7 - A spectator for most of the match, so took out the chance to unfurl his range of calm accurate passing
Veltman - 8 - MOM. Quality passing, quality positional play. A top player. Surely has to play even when Lamptey is fit
White - 7 - Gave them nothing, contributed less going forward than in some games
Dunk - 8 - Impenetrable defending, some lovely passing
Burn - 8 - Terrific passing and a combative display.
Alzate - 5 - Doesn't look remotely like a wing back to me
Gross - 7 - Some lovely pokes and prods, but the set pieces weren't there today
MacAllister - 7- Wonderful invention but better finishing needed
Bissouma - 7 - A few heavy touches, but generally had the better of his opponent
Trossard - 8 - Lovely touches, lovely imagination, but some powder puff finishing
Maupay - 4 - Didn't threaten their goal enough. Doesn't generate much power. Place under serious threat

Agree with this but would have a special mention for Veltman who was so good against a cheat and Big Dan, who looks unwieldy at times but leaves everything on the pitch, a 100% player every time. No small amount of skill as well.

Sussex, by the sea
Sanchez 7 -- nothing to do
Veltman 9 -- MOM, dominant against one of the best players in the league
White 8 -- getting better and better, what potential
Dunk 8 -- another excellent captains performance
Burn 7 -- obviously not a top drawer player but gives it his all and always love his contribution
Alzate 5 -- not his night and not a LWB! Struggled in both directions. Thought Karbownik could have come on.
Bissouma 8 -- So good again. Think he could offer more driving forward at the right moments.
Gross 7 -- decent
Mac Allister 8 -- another with great potential, lovely passing but lacked killer final ball.
Trossard 9 -- so much better than Grealish tonight. Unbelievable quick feet. If he could add consistency and goals he could genuinely be world class.
Maupay 5 -- always seems rushed in everything he does. Tries hard but low on quality tonight

Lallana 6 -- not on long enough
Welbeck 6 -- ditto

Spot on. I was surprised to see Lallana come on TBH, I thought we'd bring on Yoof and go for the kill.

Sanchez 6.5 nothing to do, won't have an easier Premier League game. get's an extra 0.5 for the claim on a freekick in the second half
Veltman 8.5 MOTM - superb today, experienced performance of a cultured player. Lamptey will struggle to get back in.
White 7 Handled everything well
Dunk 8 Superb from him - Centre back masterclass every game from him at present. Positioning was superb today.
Burn 7.5 Really strong performance again today I prefer him at Left Centre back rather than Left back, but covered both well today.
Alzate 6 Not a left wing back and not as strong a utility player as Solly. Karbownik should have come on for him IMO.
Bissouma 8 Did what he does very well again. Decent opposition, ran the show again. almost effortless
Gross 7 Very good in the centre, less effective in the final third today,
Mac Allister 7 Going to be a great player for us , didn't really gel for him today. Strong performance, buy definitely could have been better.
Trossard 8 Not far from MOTM today. Looks such a different player since (and during) the Spurs game.
Maupay 6 Worked hard, but isn't sharp enough to get the goals against good defences (IMO)

Sanchez N/A - nothing to do

White 7 - safe, could perhaps have been a little bit more adventerous going forward
Dunk 8 - great performance, Watkins hated his life
Burn 8 - very safe defensively and also one of the biggest (ehe...) threats going forward

Veltman 8 - killed off Grealish and attacked well
Bissouma 8 - back to his best, controlled midfield
Alzate 7 - very convincing performance, was a bit worried ahead of the game but one or two wonky things aside he did well, close to 8

Gross 8 - hard work, slick passing, couple of nice crosses and set pieces
Mac Allister 7 - defo not poor but also not his best game, but grew as it went on
Trossard 8 - woke up (at some point, last week maybe) on his best side and was a real threat throughout the game

Maupay 8 - excellent movement and link-up play creating chances for everyone, got the best pass completion percentage in the medium range out of all strikers in Europe and probably increased the lead today

Lallana 7 - didnt really get into the game as much as I'd hoped but did well
Welbeck n/a

I’ll go with this.

0-0 but havent seen us dominate like that for long time. Grealish is an outstanding player and didnt get a look in. Will never understand why he didnt try right side to take on Alzate and Burn
Sanchez 8 Clean sheet
Veltman 8 Very good. Lampty may not walk straight back in
White 8 Very few sides have kept Villa so quite and down to our CBs
Dunk 8 As above
Burn 8 As above Have been a big critic so pleased had a good game. Just dont understand why Villa didnt try and attack that side.
Alzate 5 Out of position. Did his best but created little upfront
Bissouma 7 Little below usual high standard.
Gross 6 Did OK
McCalister 6 maybe a little low but should have put header away
Maupay 6 Always sympathetic as hardest position to play. However at this level need to be able to pull something out of bag. See no point in him shooting from very tight angles instead of pulling ball back.
Trossard 8 Handful throughout He also did well on left when Alzate off but did mean lack of support for Maupay in central position.

Great all round team performance- just a shame about the finishing (again). I’d single out two performances:
* Veltman’s good old fashioned man to man marking kept the cheating sock boy quiet
* Trossard was very creative again tonight. If he could produce that in every match....

Sanchez - 6 (but only because he could have gone onto the pitch with a deckchair and a particularly tricky crossword puzzle)
White - 7 lots of filling in gaps and helping keep them very quiet
Dunk - 7 Dunk
Burn -7 thought he was given the brief to get forward from defence, put in a mighty shift
Veltman - 8 OWNED 'him' and playing like that, at <£1M, pretty much offsets the cost of Locadia from Holland.
Bissouma - 7 It's his midfield, Villa were only visiting
Gross - 7 accurate and got a lovely Gross turn in near the end.
Alzate - 7 Not played in goal, at CB or as a striker ... yet
Mac Allister- 7 would have been 8*, bit worried he might injure himself when he kicked the post
Trossard - 8 Dancing shoes, really looks like he's enjoying it of late, until you see his face 'cause he looks permanently pissed off and angry
Maupay - 7 Pain in the arse for them, kept them on the back foot

subs did well, would like to have seen them a bit sooner, but hey ho

* if Mac Allister's header had gone in he gets the extra point and so does everyone else (apart from Sanchez who still only deserves 6, but that's not his fault).

low marks also down to Villa's midfield being rubbish, not just controlled by us, actually rubbish

Sanchez - 6.5. Barely a save to make, but always a safe, calm option when we were passing round at the back.
EDIT: Just looked it up - Sanchez had more touches than all bar 5 of the Villa team, which shows how important his calm, accurate and effective passing is to our game.

White - 7. Solid defending & passing, less marauding forward than his stand-out games
Dunk - 8. A typical (in-form) Dunk performance
Burn - 7.5. Put in a massive shift. An attacking threat & able member of our miserly defence
Veltman - 9. MOM. Nullified their biggest threat. Frustrated Grealish, who made mistakes & got booked as a result. Calm, assured and created chances (superb cross for Ali Mac). A couple of decent shots too - I think with his left foot (?), might have got more on them with his right.
Bissouma - 7.5. Owned the middle.
Gross - 7. What an engine.
Alzate - 6. Tidy enough in a position that’s not his best. I’d have liked to see Karbo come on for him
MacAllister - 7. A mark (maybe half) off for not getting that header on target. A constant menace though.
Trossard - 8.5. Lovely to see him so confident - the guy has SKILLS.
Maupay - 6. A bit frenetic on the ball. Can’t fault him for effort but the product wasn’t always there. Harried and harassed constantly

Lallana - 7. I’d have put him on for Gross, with Karbo on for Alzate. Looked good, I hope he stays fit.
Welbeck - 6. Pushing for a start vs Palace?

Potter - 8. Masterminded the bossing of a team that could have gone top 6/7 if they’d won. The casual observer would undoubtedly have the league positions the other way round (again). Some team is going to get an absolute SPANKING soon. Probably next game. :albion2:

Sanchez 7 -- nothing to do, superb distribution, so calm
Veltman 8 -- bossed sock boy, gave him nothing
White 7 -- so assured
Dunk 8 -- what a run of form
Burn 8 -- ditto, the way he's turned things round since he got left to take on Traore is just stunning
Alzate 6 -- tidy, nothing more
Bissouma 8.5 -- Boss bissed it
Gross 7 -- couldn't quite kill em
Mac Allister 7 -- he's some player, and was so inventive but got too much on our best chance
Trossard 9 MotM -- outstanding, so creative, his technique was something else, and caused them constant problems
Maupay 7 -- ran 'em hard, held it up well

Lallana 7 -- promising cameo
Welbeck 6 -- it'll come

We could say story of our season. We deserve so many more points than we've got, but this is such an exciting team to watch, they'll blo(ss)om.

Very good asesment only changes I would make would be to lower Trossard slightly to 8.5 and up Veltman 9 as he was my MOTM he not only controlled his marker but he got forward put in some great crosses and was unlucky not to score what a signing

Great player, but not very bright,
Also I suspect too arrogant to accept he wasn't going to get anywhere against Veltman last night.

Yes 100%.

The Trossard we first watched has well and truly returned. The goal helped him enormously.

I maintain that he had been disappointing until recently though, but am off the fence and he can remain as we march towards Europe. [emoji6]

Lallana created 4 chances for us in the 24 minutes he was on the pitch, need to get him 100% fit so he can start games.

I don't disagree. His form in Nov, Dec and even into Jan was well below par. I thought he was good against Fulham, and that was when his upturn arrived, and this despite the chance that he should have buried.

Sanchez 7 - didn't have to do much but did it well.
Veltman 8 - Excellent display. Really will give Potter a tough decision when Lamptey is available. Grealish couldn't dive for a penalty as he never got in our area!
White 8- Really good footballer. Looking an England prospect.
Dunk 8 - Back to best and some great passes.
Burn 8 - Should have scored but made a huge contribution.
Alzate 7 - He is getting better with more games.
Bissouma 8- Absolutely runs the midfield. Going to be big boots to fill if he does move on.
Gross 7 - Good game and some great crosses.
Mac Allister 8- Really good performance.
Trossard 9 - Possibly his best game for us. So clever and skilful. Just needs to score!
Maupay 7 - Works so hard and competes well. JUST NEEDS MORE GOALS!
Lallana 7 - Good to see him back.
Welbeck 6 - Wouldn't mind seeing him start next game.

I’d go further and think he had one good game vs Utd and was then average until recently. I think you’re right vs Fulham there were some moments, but arguably along with Several others is in great form.
