Have we dropped so far that to soften the pain of losing a player the club just pretend it is our birthday?

Really pleased for Maty.

He is too good to be our No.2 and never had that role as a result.

I’m confident that Walton (who was meant to have been Ryan’s primary competition this season) and penalty saving genius Steele will be great back up to the wall that is Sanchez.

Not really he was letting in practically every shot that came his way. The defenders had lost faith in him no mystery at all.

We had the highest percentage of shots converted by our opposition in the EPL & football league with Ryan in goal this season. Pretty much any shot that went towards Ryan’s goal went in, he made very few saves.

Closer examination will tell you that a lot of those shots (several penalties amongst them) would have gone in with any keeper but the fact he was so ineffective at claiming set-pieces sealed his fate.

Presumably McGill being recalled is part of this.

Would imagine our goalkeeper choices will look like this for the next few years:

1. Sanchez
2. Walton
3. Steele (Cup Keeper)
4. McGill (U23 with Rushworth)

he'd clearly fallen out of favour with management - so assume he's been a dick recently. he was a good gk, but not great.

also does this free up a non-UK place in our squad, as we start bringing in new signings?

btw, i'd never want to Steele play in goal again other than pen shootouts, which isn't that useful when you're using up a squad place. total liability as a goalkeeper, rather than shotstopper.

As if we didn't know already, he simply must have had a major bust up to go from first choice, to failing to make the bench, to Arsenal on loan...

With Maupay is my complete guess!

Happy for Matty to get a move for his sake, hopefully good for all parties.

Sanchez is the future and the time is right to change,

But Matty’s a top guy and wish him all the best.

I heard that Arsenal had a short list and he was on it.

Never got the Ryan hate around here personally, a solid pro and integral to our stay in the PL after arriving

If he’s not going to play then loan/sell him, makes sense. I just worry that what we’re left with is inexperienced & unproven. If Sanchez’s good start doesn’t continue then we could look very foolish.

Now that is an impressively sharp observation.. you could be onto something.

Moises agent had some talk yesterday that we couldn’t play him as we too many non nationals (unconfirmed). Now with this news, and Moises flying in today. Does seem a coincidence.

More regular first team opportunities? Against one of the best keepers in the league in Leno? Ok then :lolol:

Sanchez's ability to catch the frigging ball from set pieces has blatently highlighted Ryan's shortcomings.

Real shame. Seems a nice bloke. Great passion. Hates Palace.
