Or his agent could be sorting bits n bobs in Belgium in preperation for a loan move there. A place to live etc.

The fact is, none of us know. So nobody should be getting too excited at the moment. Personally, I think this is an excellent acquisition, wether we loan him out or not.

But I am excited. Excited we're now a sufficiently strong pull to get one of the best talents in South America to come to us and excited that we can seemingly compete with and beat the likes of Man U to a signing - that's without thinking about what he might do for us on the pitch. Even if we don't see him in an Albion shirt until next season there is much to be excited about with a signing like this. :)

I'd imagine the blood sucking agent will have his fingers in anything his guy does, if there's a loan fee, he'll get a cut of it for sure, that's just how agents are. Moreso, if he does actually have his players interests at heart, then he'll want to make sure any loan deal is in both of theirs interest, last thing he wants is his player signing for a 2nd division Belgium side if he wants him in the shop window for a mega money move to Man Utd, Spurs etc.

The trouble is, I base everything I know on Football Manager 2007 - I guess agents are more involved than they were when I chose to loan out Cayne Hanley from Stalybridge Celtic to Witton Albion.

Don't get me wrong, this would be a coup considering who he's been linked with, so yes it's an exciting signing. You just know that some on here will throw their toys out of the pram if we loan him straight out, it's inevitable!

Agreed and agreed.

He can't physically come to the UK. If Belgium still has an open air corridor then maybe that's the closest he can get, or he's doing other deals there. Not saying it means a loan to Belgium will or won't happen just that his agent being there doesn't tell us anything.

Apart from if someone has been in South America or Portugal within 10 days of arrival there is nothing else stopping someone from entering the country. The borders are not closed, the ending of the travel corridors just means all arrivals into the country have to self isolate for 10 days on arrival. It seems likely that if we are flying Caicedo into the country tomorrow then he will have left Ecuador earlier in January, probably in preparation for a move during the European transfer window (the Ecuadorian League doesn't start until mid Feb). If he hasn't left Ecuador yet I cannot see how we can get this transfer over the line now before the end of the window as he won't even be allowed into the UK in time to complete the deal.

True. I'll try to find the rules in Belgium but they may be less strict so he doesn't have to self-isolate. I don't think either the agent or the player have to be physically in the country to get the deal done though.

The player would need to be in the country to attend the medical though, we know how thorough the club are with medicals from past experience so I cannot see them wanting to conduct a full medical without club staff present etc and using their normal trusted partners at Spire.

Future partnership with the Polish boy sounds quite exciting

you might be right but I thought we'd done others abroad. Was Percy in the UK for the medical/signing? I'd have thought they would set the parameters for the medical and do it anywhere. If they have an observer there it would remove chance of deception.

I believe that the whole Belgium loan thing came from a single disgruntled Manchester United supporter on Twitter which has then been repeated multiple times on this thread :lolol:

This, I was reading the thread on twitter when the first tweet to mention Belgium came up. It was a fed up Manc fan who couldn’t understand why they hadn’t got him.
The first Ecuadorean journo to break our interest said the attraction of us to Caicedo was first team premier league football.

I know the lad is Ecuadorian and only a 19 year old kid, and he may not have ever been to Europe, let alone Brighton, before but if he doesn't start and impress against Blackpool, I say "get rid".

OK just looked it up. Percy held up his shirt outside what looks like the training ground. So you're probably right.

Belgium isn't allowing anyone in except for essential purposes but that does include "highly-skilled" work for which a work permit is required.

Still doesn't tell us anything :)

Izzy singed his contract in Belgium.
I remember the photo on the interweb that accidentally showed it on the table next to a smiling Izzy in an obviously Belgium restaurant.

MacAllister also had his medical and singed his contract in Argentina with out ever setting foot in this country.

Can’t read the whole thread on my phone right now but their director seems to indicate he may not go into first team immediately with this quote.

“I understand that Brighton have no places for foreigners for the remainder of the tournament. We don’t know if they will loan him to Belgium, but if it happens it’ll be something very timely because Brighton made a great investment for him.”

Was most interested in the first part regarding foreigners in squad. I forget how that applies to players under 21...?

I didn’t think it did apply to players who didn’t need to be in the 25

Max of 17 players in the 25 man squad who aren’t ‘home grown’

Those under 21 don’t need to be named... so not sure what that means

Not sure of the rules about foreign players these days? Maybe Bernardo leaving makes a difference. ???
