I recently found out about his appalling defensive record at Swansea and looked a little deeper at what their fans had said about him.

A lot of positives but it's definitely a worry that despite saying we're learning these concerns of Swansea have passed onto Brighton
Potter in a nutshell

Its very different. Hyppia - far more of an inexperienced coach than Potter - took a team that had been in the play offs for the past two seasons to relegation strugglers in 4 months. (admittedly with godawful recruitment). Even Hughton when he came in only just kept that team up.

Potter though is managing a team thats not yet in the bottom three, and only a few points off where most fans would be pretty comfortable.
Its obvious and he acknowledges it, that its disappointing, its not at all obvious that he should resign/be sacked although clearly a lot of fans have now concluded thats the case in the last few weeks.

PS: I can't find anywhere in the press conference where he says he is "struggling at this level" which implies he thinks and acknowledges he's not up to it.. He just says its tough and the most "challenging time of his career".

Your first sentence isn’t quite truthful. Did he have Ulloa, Buckley, Barnes, Ward to name a few. I believe Hyypia’s first game he had to play Fenelon against Wednesday.

I know . I saw that game .

PS: did you find the quote of potter saying he was struggling at this level ?

Don't feel entitled to win matches but do feel entitled to better decision making from the Board, coaching staff and players to give ourselves a fighting chance to stay in Premier League.

This accusation of entitled fans is major BS. Turn your attention on recruitment, Potter, the coaches, and a few of the players.

I really don't think if we get relegated it's for those reasons. I have seen many relegations over the years and the current staff and players do not look like they have lost their way. Even in the first half against arsenal we made several very good chances that better finishers could have taken. If we go down it's not because of losing it, it's a final third quality issue (as the big one).

I broadly agree, at the moment. My concern for the rest of the season would be that if we don’t bolster our attacking options then I don’t see how Potter gets us out of the current funk and then the players may lose their way. Having said that, folk shouldn’t be too quick to dismiss other people’s opinions just because they don’t align with their own way of thinking, fast forward 4 months and the people who are convinced we’re going down could get well be proved correct, sadly.
There seems to be very little middle ground on NSC at the moment, even more so than usual and I think a bit of perspective and reasoning is being lost along the way as a ‘them and us’ divide grows every larger.

Read between the lines anyway it’s quite obvious he is struggling at this level. I don’t blame him many inexperienced managers do in the PL.

But managed to take us to our highest ever points total and finish in the PL. What a loser

I think you are writing your own script, not reading between the lines at all

Yes I’ve learned this of late too, but you actually missed the main concern. Set pieces. Someone here posted some stats last week that, if true, are damning of Potters defensive organisation. Conceded a ton of goals from set pieces with Swansea. Worst set piece record in the Championship (this must sound familiar to all of us).

I’m still Potter-in, but this is a worry and hopefully something he’ll improve. As we can be damn sure other managers will note this.

(Ps. Hopefully this proves we can have a nuanced view. I can see negatives but still see the bigger picture and support the manager and what he’s doing).

He got 2 more points than we'd managed 2 years earlier. After blowing another £70m on top of an established squad and having a 3 month gap in the middle of the season to sort our mess out. It's so lame that it's being trotted out on virtually every club/ manager communication at the minute. It was only our 3rd season in the Prem, but you'd think he'd beaten Usain Bolt in the 100m

I am not saying we won't go down, we might. But if we do go down playing as we are currently, a lot of the knee jerk moaning is not made correct. We are in a position where we can go down without doing a huge thing wrong, we are not cemented in the Premier league yet. There may not be a striker available to help, is that an error? Maybe, but it's not a huge one and not overly concerning. It's just where we are.

I can see potter getting it better this season: mupauy has shown, with confidence, he can go on little runs of goal scoring, so can trossard and welbeck has the ability to score goals as well. All the time we keep creating we have a chance that the forwards will click, even if it's just over a handful of games that will probably be enough.

That comment is precisely what I’m talking about.
We don’t know if those comments are ‘not made correct’ , and knee jerk is an accusation that’s being used far too often and way too easily. Knee jerk is a Man Utd fan wanting OGS sacked when they’re 10 unbeaten and 2nd in the league, knee jerk is not one home win in a calendar year.
There’s a real lack of listening and too much shouting down the ‘opposition’ going on at the moment.

:lolol: Had covid not ravished the world we would be playing in the championship the way things were heading. It will catch up with us this season it invariably always does when your scrapping around at the bottom of the league. Our only hope is if Fulham don’t go on a run and stay as they are.

I really hope things change and we manage to get out of it, it would be nice to win one in three or four a few draws and have a nice relaxing PL season. Newcastle seem to manage it season after season.

All I am saying is that if we go down it does not automatically make the "potter is out of his depth and has lost it" "March is shit" "burn is shit" etc reactions correct. I would also say many of those are knee jerk reactions to a loss instead of taking time and actually looking at the game.

I agree with the reactions that certain players receive in the player ratings thread, but sometimes a decent player will deserve a low score.

Sometimes. But I have seen numerous 3s zeros etc this season. Come on, none of our players have been close to that bad this season. If those scores are not knee jerk I am not sure I know what is.

I’ll hold my hands up, I’ve not seen any 3s or 0s myself so can’t dispute that, and yes, those scores are way OTT.

I've seen a few and its muggy grandstanding and kinda ruins the whole ratings thing which should be provide discussion points rather than people screaming at each other over sometimes plain silly ratings. No player ever goes out intending to be rubbish even if they hate the club they play for, their career and earning ability depend on their performances..

Your not sounding so confident now  don’t worry plenty have backed the wrong horse before.
