Or was that something else?

I don't have a problem with it continuing. We all need something to bitch about.

I think it's a bit disingenuous to basically tell most businesses in the country that they have to close but football as a business can carry on. But I'll still watch it while it's on as like most on here I do enjoy it.

I just hope the murmurings of football being halted again don't come true.

WFH, I find it a personal JOY to slam the laptop lid down at 5.30, and transfer immediately to some live soccerball with a couple of cold ones from the fridge. No 30-40 minute yomp back from HH, just straight from desk to sofa. I don't even care what game it is.

This has been one of the few perks from this godforsaken year.

I think you speak for a lot of people!

Nah, not for me. Perhaps it comes down to how wide a range of interests you have. I also love theatre, movies, comics, some video games. So, when football isn't on I'm happy to watch films (over 400 this year!) or read or watch shows ('the show must go on' on youtube are hosting recordings of shows for a couple of days, like national theatre did, plus I own some on disc/digital, there are also streaming services dedicated to theatre shows) or play video games. Or even just go for a bike ride.

I don't know if I would miss football more if fans were in the stands in massive numbers creating a sense of event and energy, or if I didn't find our play under potter so infuriating due to so many missed chances and silly defensive errors (for the record, I'm not saying Potter out, just noting I'm not particularly fond of the football at the moment to give my response more context).

Should it be postponed? I'm not sure I have particularly strong feelings. There are people who have a much narrower range of things to distract/entertain/whatever and without football they would struggle. For them it is necessary. But I am concerned by the increasing number of clubs that are postponing games because of outbreaks, because of reports of players suffering long term effects of covid (I personally suspect there are more than have been reported). When project restart happened, number of cases were limited. I don't know if everyone in football is just starting to tire of everything and are being less stringent and more lax about following guidelines, or if the guidelines are simply not sufficient enough any more. And I don't like that players and club employees are being put at risk for our entertainment. So I wouldn't be upset if it was suspended for a while, but I'm not going to campaign for it.

I suspect the Liverpool teams will only have another game or two in front of crowds.

I am all for football continuing but there does seem to be more footballers getting it at the moment. If that further increases there might be a rethink as although they are all young athletes long covid could finish a career.

Completely wrong blud.

Football in these trying times is even more important. We need as much as our regular lives we can get, we already have enough things taken away.

It's rare for me to agree with a Palace fan, but you are spot on there.
I'm really missing cricket at the moment.

I am more of a cricket fan TBH. I am likely to be found either at Hove, Arundel, the oval and a couple of times a year Lords.... i can watch cricket, listen to cricket read about cricket I can’t say football holds me in such a way!

Footballs just a habit something I’ve done since 1972 with my dad and now my kids but I can’t say I really enjoy it  but at the moment we need it.

I missed the football experience I enjoyed most long before Covid. This year it has been a bonus to have so much available though. SO I'd miss it, but not that much as like you I have many other hobbies & distractions, I've really missed playing music as part of a band, performing and attending gigs, first year in 34 with neither. I've manage one race with the car, which was something, nothing classic car related, no scooter rallies, but did at least use them for commuting, we're living in a building site at the moment, house renovations have been slow and painful, but a good distraction.

I picked up a second deck yesterday so I can DJ properly . . . I did a few sets via mixlr earlier in the year, may do a few over xmas, maybe via FB, another good fun thing to do, listen to your own record collection and hopefully brighten a few peoples afternoon/evening in the process.

THe lack of sport completely is odd, but you quickly realise there's plenty to do elsewhere, and how much time you spend just watching!

Football on TV is probably a more effective mental service for a lot of people than the NHS right now, I think it’s been a very shrewd move to keep it going.

Anyone agree with me that in the current situation, football is not necessary ? As of today, only Scousers can get in grounds, further down the pyramid we can't watch grass roots football. Some might be of the opinion that watching their team going through the paces on TV to fulfil broadcasting contracts is ok, but it's not football as we know it. Should the whole thing be postponed ? Thoughts ?

If football was postponed what would happen financially? Would the players stop getting paid? If not, how would clubs survive? If so, the players would almost certainly be free to leave (and go abroad where football is still being played and they could get paid).

If we want football to survive in the long term we have to accept it needs to find a way to keep going in the short term.
