I have no time for the old bat, but that's a bit rude, in her home town, where she's adored, surely?

Edit: shoddily disrespectful by the egg chuckers. Disrespectful of the locals.

Looks like a very good statue.

In my town centre, a different story. Perspective

It could be the locals that are doing it? Some weren't happy at £100k of public money being spent on it

The great Doris Stokes was from there. Legend.

I think the locals would prefer a more famous person from Grantham. Isaac Newton.

There's already a statue of Newton in Grantham - it's outside the town hall

A mate of mine is from Grantham and says the whole town is pretty dull. Sounds like some egg-throwing would liven things up

It's highly likely that most of the potential egg throwing unwashed weren't even born when Thatcher was PM!

There's an excellent organic farm near me. The eggs it produced are very large and yolky

What's more ..... my normal fielding position is long on. I've often been complimented on my excellent throwing arm. I can fizz the ball into the keepers glovers from about 40 metres you know.

I've just noticed that a return to Grantham from Brighton is £76. I can afford that

When is it being unveiled?

They probably weren't born when Hitler was around either. Doesn't stop him being a solid gold c**t.

It cuts both ways, if we ever see a Tony Blair statue, it will be a target.

For me, above is the most thought provoking comment.

Most of us know people who feel that either Thatcher or Blair made some very unnecessary, damaging decisions.
Maybe the time has come to stop creating statues of politicians.

We now live in a very binary world where unfortunately there seems to be no middle ground for opinions.

I quite enjoyed the Thatcher Death Party at one of the squares back home in Lund and actually met one of my girlfriends there.

That said she was very influential in destroying what had previously been a well-functioning social democratic country for 70 years...

Unlike 90% of NSC I was a Thatcher fan although I did not benefit from any of her policies and neither was I badly affected either. Whatever you say about her she stopped the Unions running/ruining the country, that was good enough for me.

Any statue will be defaced/pulled down though I have no doubt. Feck me, even Baden Powell’s was under threat, no hope for Thatcher’s staying up

I think that is absolutely spot on.

If we have to respect the position of those people supporting a figure by letting them put a statue up, then we also have to respect the opinions of those dislike the same figure by letting them protest. If neither of those options are acceptable, then the answer is surely don't put any statues up of polticians.
