I know we've got the Maupay and Ryan dropped threads so Mods merge if you wish, but do we actually know why Connolly wasn't in the squad yet?

Listening to the Albion Unlimited podcast this morning, they were talking in quite a certain way that he has had a bit of a bad attitude and that's why he wasn't selected. Apologies if I've missed it but I can't see anywhere that Potter has said anything like that? In the Argus piece this morning he was actually talking quite positively about him.

Where have they got that info about his attitude from and does anyone here know if there's anything in it?

An underrated actor. Very good in Mrs Brown. Some of his stand up is great too.

I have no idea if it's true or not, although Connolly does seem to have something of the Billy Big Bollocks about him. Not that I care one jot about that if he's doing the business.

However, Potter has never said anything bad about any player has he?

I'd be stunned if Potter came out and said a current member of his squad had a bad attitude - it's just not Potter's style.

I have heard a couple of interpretations of his social media output, which imply he can be a bit petulant at times.
He is also regularly called out by his teammates as the vainest of the Albion players.

In my view, he possibly veers towards being a dickhead on occasions and Potter is managing that, by not letting him think he is better than he is.
Being left out of the squad could indicate that he was also involved in the incident. If so Potter may feel it would be more damaging to expose this.

Can't think of a decent centre forward who doesn't

Yes I quite agree about Potter and other than Mourinho I don't think many managers would do it in public.

I was just surprised by the way Aspinall, Cantor and Harms on the podcast were talking about this like it was a known fact he has an attitude problem and that was why he was dropped.

I actually met him a few years ago and had a decent chat to him.
There was none of the alleged attitude then, he come across as a decent young chap and eager to please.
I suppose people can change, but I'd be surprised

He didn't make the 18 on Sunday, I gather, because Potter selected alternatives who he thought would do a better job. Zeqiri and Welbeck were ahead of Connolly in Potter's thinking. Not being first, second or even third choice is something Connolly now will have to respond to. Welbeck was always likely to come into the 18 early, while Potter has indicated that he's been very impressed with Zeqiri since he's been there.

Robert Lewandowski?

Seems pretty grounded - works very hard on his game and in a game & I wouldn't say no if he fancied a game for us...

I think people are over thinking stuff.

Sometimes a ''throw away comment'' can be made by someone at the club and a Journalist within earshot or hear it second hand can embellish the remark and before you know it someone is accused of shooting puppies.

I recall being within earshot of someone at the Club making a comment about a player - Not a Coach or the Manager I must add - The comment was a negative comment about a player at the Club. And if I had been a journalist and put what was said out in the Media then the player would have had ''Chinese whispers'' pertaining to that comment travel all over the place, when in fact it was only slightly negative but not all that bad in the grand scheme of things. By the time it reached NSC he too could have been shooting puppies.

So I wouldn't read too much into anything about Connolly.

Swiss Andy coming in will help I think. Similar age, both playing for their countries. Will be good for him to have some competition and take a bit of pressure off. Potters comments on Swiss were certainly interesting and well timed I think

Five live 606 know him as 'The Con Man', because he's regularly on the dive of the week feature.

I like...:)

Every tiny incident, social media post, ‘club leak’, press comment or a mere sideways glance from a player or facial expression in a photograph is over-interpreted to a ridiculous degree these days, with so many people drawing all sorts of conclusions and making daft assumptions based on, often, two bits short of basically naff-all. It’s laughable.

....and if Connolly is a bit Billy BB then at least he has that characteristic of most goalscorers. He’s still not nailed the scoring goals bit for me yet though. Can see him being 4th choice striker behind Maupay, Welbeck and Zeqiri soon.
