Thought Kane’s was a pen - it’s silly by Lallana - Something Murray was an expert in

Thought it was a foul on Trossard - pulled him back

Brighton goal should have been ruled out

Ref let a load of late challenges on both sides go as well.

Thought it was a poor game low on quality, Lampety was by far the stand out player, but apart from that both sides poor - Spurs giving the ball away non stop and Brighton not doing anything with the ball when handed to them - sideways and backwards.

Spurs prob had the better chances, but even they came from errors.

Fair assessment, but I think your standards are higher than ours. I thought we played some great stuff as usual - but it’s fairly ineffective if you’re not creating chances from it or taking the chances - that’s the frustration. I think the league is stronger this season but can probably name 8 sides who play worse football than the Albion and several of a similar level. But it’s points that count if we want to stay up...

Tonight is the first time I have begun to fall a little out of love with football. Man U was bad, but I felt angry and annoyed with that. Tonight I just felt sad that so much of the fun of football has gone because of VAR. I didn't even cheer Lamptey's goal, as I was sure it would be chalked off - and when it wasn't, I still couldn't cheer as it was then too late and I was just shaking my head.

As one poster put on the main match thread - at least we lost to a 'proper' football goal. Even if it was terrible marking.

Could have written that myself. Literally exactly the same. I actually felt a little sick with it all - even when we got the goal. I think in the main VAR needs binning. I swear the big teams get more decisions and I swear the time spent on these decisions, lack of consistency (ie why wasn’t the monitor checked at palace?!) and general use of it is making football worse.

It was nice football, but I honestly can’t recall Hugo having to make a proper save?

I slightly disagree on the strength of the league, I don’t think anyone is playing well.

Saying that, I tend to watch Brighton most weeks and consistency wise played they best have played the football in the league, but are on 4 points because of the lack of final ball/missed chances - If Welbeck stays fit he can be the missing player.

Brighton won’t be anywhere near the bottom 3 - Fulham are down - WBA won’t be far behind them as well Sheff United

after the WBA game I was annoyed at our performance 2nd half but tonight I am back to normal thinking, the PL is a circus and i don't like circuses.

I must admit I didn’t get the thinking behind it stopping decisions for the bigger teams, if anything it would have made it worse?

They spend more time in weaker teams areas and therefore VAR is more
Likely to pick something up.

That is the idea - I guess the Man U game still irks me. Why was the Connolly pen overturned (can see both views as he cut across Pogba but was also tripped) and checked on the monitor, yet the one at Palace that they got given not checked on the monitor...? Why was the VAR user in the Man U game allowed to allegedly give an opinion about Connolly instigating contact when thats against the rules. And why was there no subsequent actions for him? It’s not just VAR - the stoppage time thing today was a perfect example. He blew up before the 6 mins when we were about to cross - yet first half let’s spurs have a free kick after the minimum of 3 (when there was no extra stoppages yet there was clear time wasting in the second halves stoppage time. There’s still a clear bias for me - subconscious or conscious...

I didn’t get the blowing full time tonight when he did, but he was an absolute clown.

I wish we could go back to just having goal line tech, it’s too late now.

Just keep VAR for the offsides when it should be black or white and not judgemental.
Leave the pushes, handballs and tackles to the referee.

Give us our game back.

Kane's Foul:

Soft as he did buy the foul. Ref gave it. Turned out to be on the line. No clear and obvious error. Penalty.

Trossard;

Not clear and obvious. Stayed with on-field decision.

March:

Looked at over and over again. Ref felt he played the ball first. Not clear and obvious. Play continues. Goal.

All of these could have arguments either way. But I wouldn't class any as errors.

My point for hating it, is that it is not reducing controversy, it’s actually creating more. For the TV market it might fine, but I’m not returning to live games with this shit happening. We pay stupid money and should have unbridled joy upon Lamptey scoring with a cursory look at the lino, not this ridiculous nonsense of going back to a separate phase of play to check a foul that was right under the refs nose, to a technology that can’t conclusively tell you anyway.

VAR is the issue for me. Football isn’t like other sports that have successfully implemented technology, whether cricket, rugby, American football where games have natural breaks and phases. Football is fast and furious. There’s no place in it for long reviews, bringing play back etc etc. For fans in the stadiums it’s an abysmal experience. I’m out.

VAR has ruined football from a fans viewpoint. Can no longer celebrate a goal as there is always the question at the back of your mind about VAR and will it be chalked off. There are probably no more or no less errors with VAR or without VAR. I want it scrapped. Let the game be how it was. If the ref cocks up then part of the game.

The spontaneity has also gone. The game is also full of cheats who fall over at the slightest contact. It's embarrassing to watch at times.

The one thing I would change right now would be to introduce a stopping clock. No more arguments about time added on or time added to time added on. It's the one thing that can be taken from the ref and managed properly. Would stop the chronic time wasting which suits all teams when the situation is in their favour,

I'm just grateful we were allowed the 1 , because another ref won't mention any names , would have chalked ours off with a smiley Shakespearean square signal to the camera .

Fkn bin VAR asap , the game is dying on its arse .

As a spurs fan, I’d like to hear your take on the 3 main decisions? Thought we were good for a point tonight but then we were good for 1 v Chelsea, 3 v Man U, 3 v Palace - so not sure if it’s us or just a bit of bad luck at the moment! We kept Kane and Son incredibly quiet but frustratingly a world class player off the bench we forgot to mark

I would not have forgotten to mark Bale, but Webster did. I freely admit I don't like Webster(not because I was a Duffy fan), but he had Bale in his sights then left him a free header.

Two major improvements they should make to VAR

1. The VAR ref is not someone on the roster of PL refs but a former ref (who can't physically do the job on the pitch anymore)
2. All decisions time-boxed to 30 seconds, anything which takes longer than that is not "clear and obvious" and stays with the on-field call

THey just need Collina to take a quick look . . . 30s is more than enough.

I was in favour of VAR on it's introduction but now I am out on it. I can accept that refs make mistakes in real time, what I cannot accept is mistakes still being made despite reviewing video footage. The hairline offsides, the handball rule of the week, the confusion as to what or does constitute a foul. Cheats are still prospering and the spectacle is getting worse. Get rid of it. VAR is not fit for purpose right now. Such a joy to watch non-league games where the play just carries on regardless.

Only 1 major improvement is needed.
1. Dump it.

Ref looked at the March foul 8 times before making decision, he only needed to check once.

The Lamptey goal is as good as example as any of why VAR should be binned.

That should have been a time of pure joy. Instead it was, 3 seconds of joy, 10 seconds of dismay, 4 minutes of confusion and a moment of mild satisfaction when I realised it had been allowed.

It's abhorrent to everything that football should be about.

In this case the ref was right over the ball.

VAR should be totally removed and reintroduced gradually for very specific things. For example it could work well to counter diving.

Is correct - totally correct. But they won’t will they - now it’s been implemented. I didn’t even get a second of joy as I knew they’d pull it back to look at the March incident - even though it was 5 or so passes earlier!
