And how can the team with the 'most strength in the league at CB' be so utterly dross at the back?

White is finding it hard to adjust to PL, not helped by being played out of position.

Too much tippy tappy football with no outlet.

I genuinely wonder how he'd be doing if he were at Leeds... Reckon he'd be playing with more confidence that's for sure!

Burn isnt good enough imho (unless as cover or an emergency CB), Maupay is not in form and is as good as useless on his own up front, Trossard was anonymous second half. Lallana ran that midfield till he went off. Totally fell apart after he went off. Gross offers nothing other than a body, his best days are behind him

No leaders and not enough experience and worryingly, as mentioned here a million times already this season, all the other teams around us last year have, in the main, added depth and quality that we havent.

Tinkerman isnt getting it right and nor are too many players

I think we can say the entire team was anonymous in that second half.

I’m super gutted, but there’s a lot of knee jerk reactions here tonight. Long way to go yet this season.

I do agree with you on questioning the recruitment however. I’m on record not being impressed with Zequiri and Webeck as our striker signings. They are not the answer if they can’t get in the team. I don’t how much the recruitment is down to Potter though.

Is it me or is white not really all that? Complete nonsense having him in midfield instead of Alzate - just trying to force him into the team, when he isnt really justifying his place in defence.

I wonder how Alzate feels about losing his place to a rookie CB? White needed to be slowly bled in at the back, not a starting CM.

Awful. It’s a bottom 6, with Newcastle too. I would scrap this 3-5-2 it doesn’t work at all at home.

Disagree. We looked better when playing the 3-5-2 than we did playing with two banks of four. No idea why Solly came off but by doing so we lost all width. Lamptey then ended up playing in the midfield which made him entirely ineffective. It was the subs and change in formation that lost us the game this evening IMO.

Apart from one good intercepting run, White was very poor tonight, and I questioned him for their goal.

Well - I thought it was a 7.30 kick-off. So, quickly scanning this, I'm not too upset at missing the game to be honest.

Alzate is the closest player to Lallana? Why not make that change?

Exactly what I thought should have been the sub if AL HAD to come off. Alzate would have kept some energy and bite in the middle. But why on earth can Llalana only play 60 mins? The bloke has had a full pre season. It’s not good enough.

As for Pascal I’d gladly never see him on the field for us again. The bloke is almost non existent these days.

It does look a bit like that. I was saying before the game that no way should White be moving up to midfield at Alzate's expense. Play him in defence or drop him.

I’m still supportive of GP and wouldn’t lay all of the blame for tonight’s woeful performance on him. We only played well for 25 minutes in the first half. For the rest of the game the decision making and skill level were awful. We slowed it down when we needed momentum. We rushed when we had time. We kept trying to make difficult passes when better and easier options were available. The initial defending for their goal was dire, even if they benefited from a fortunate deflection.

IMHO Alzate and Connolly should both have started. I was baffled by the substitutions. The prospect of a second goal disappeared on 60 minutes, which handed the initiative even more to WBA.

Very disappointing, but it needn’t be season defining.

In no way was that second half performance acceptable. In. No. Way.

Potter moves from “safe as houses” to “must do better” IMO and he’s not far from a Tier Two “on thin ice”.

Thought White did pretty well first half but rapidly deteriorated second half. We really need a proper holding midfielder.

He got a bit lost second half neither playing close to Bissouma, or the CBs, in the end he was covering no-mans-land, and his part in their goal looked like a player who's head was in a spin as well as his body.

What’s weird is, I think most of us thought Biss and Alzate had the makings of a terrific Center midfield partnership.

I wonder why Potter changed it?
