That is no different to practically everything in life at the moment. Plenty of people still working in an office, factory, warehouse etc.

What's the alternative? Pretty much everything in society / life is a house of cards - once the income stops the whole lot collapses

The alternative is everyone compromises a bit. There are financial packages agreed between governing bodies in return for mutual reduction of fixtures

The thick headed players are threatened with actual sanction for breaches of Covid protocol. These actual sanctions, lengthy bans for attending parties etc, are carried out.

Because if we do get to a stage where competitions can't be completed because entire clubs or national teams have tested positive then the financial repercussions will be much worse, and that's without talking about the risk to the safety of the people in and around football.

Whoever the England manager was, as a player I'd likely be more concerned about what my club manager thought...

And what sanction has Ole and Pep meeted out to last month's miscreants?

Given they travel by private jets, private coaches, likely stay in hotels where they book a entire floor and probably ask for them to be empty 3 nights before and cleaned, then travel to games in a 'bubble' on a coach there isn't really much risk especially with regular testing.

It's not like they're getting on shared planes, public transport and walking around town going to restaurants etc

Maybe. But there's been plenty of positive tests among EPL players. And there's 3 Scottish players going to miss tonight's Euro play-off semi-final v Israel for Covid-related reasons

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54453593

And let's not kid ourselves that 'elite' players live in this hermetically sealed bubble. Despite the best efforts of clubs and countries, there's plenty of thick as mince players more than happy to ignore the rules, as we've seen in recent months / weeks / days

Foden & Greenwood are being punished right now of course, as well as being thrown out of Iceland by the authorities and being fined.

Like Southgate says, he can't account for what they do away for England, but like we've seen from Chilwell, Abrahams & Sancho - they've also broken COVID rules and are now in an England camp away from everyone else, self isolating. All of these measures make sense to me in the effort to get sport going again.

I'm interested about Brighton actually, previously we were not stopping in hotels and were travelling on the day of the game - is this still the case?

I don't watch England much , don't even know the score from the other night so not sure if my view is biased but I think this is a cop out from Southgate. A meaningless friendly is a great place to make a statement about COVID about those who break the rules which will endanger the return of spectators.

Not sure what the Albion are doing but i guess staying in hotels is an option as long as they have been properly sanitised- may be have their own cleaning group to ensure standards.

Don't get me wrong I want football to survive and that means grass roots as well as PL but I think I agree with original OP these friendlies are possibly not a good idea and especially if it removes a saturday in an already crowded schedule.

There’s 1 friendly (tonight) and 2 competitive games (next week) in this window

Don't find it odd at all. Worrying that so many do, when it's perfectly normal.

The pandemic has clearly traumatised people. The world has become nosophobic. We should be returning to normal far beyond this now.

well yes ...i'd agree with that but meanwhile scotland is under political bullshittery ....in fact yes , political bullshittery is what it is .....cancer , influenza , pneumonia and suicide accounts fo millions of deaths each year accumulatively .....covid , kills old people , sorry , i know its crass but its the 21st century for **** sake .

DING ****ING DONG.....!!!

Given the broadcasting contracts signed and the rebates due if matches don’t take placeI’m not surprised, whether that’s the right thing to do is a separate issue.

so when they try and lock you all down in a month its all ok because broadcasting contracts have been adhered to..??...bollox again.

When we have thousands of students on university campuses, when we have hundreds of pupils in schools, when we have a thousand fans at RU games, when the Royal Albert Hall is reopening so the toffs can go watch some ballet...........

My son-in-law was prohibited from accompanying my daughter to her first scan on Monday. It is their first kid and my daughter was scared. My son-in-law was prepared to take a test and wear whatever PPE was required but the ban stood. Fortunately all is well with mum and baby but what if it hadn't been?

If people have been traumatised it is a result of the ridiculous and illogical rules, regulations and laws introduced by our clueless, bungling PM and his constant messages of doom and gloom.

THPP: Looking up the big words so you don't have to. Thank me later

'Nosophobia is the irrational fear of having a specific disease. The origins of the word Nosophobia come from 'nosos' and phobos which mean disease and fear in Greek. 1 In recent years, nosophobia has also been referred to as cyberchondria.'

Dammit! I was going to use "cyberchondria" in a witty post and now you have exposed the word to everyone that couldn't be bothered to google nosophobia. How am I going to look intelligent now?

this exactly and in my view the doom mongering is designed to distract the populous from how utterly useless our current shower of worzells is .

teams are travelling all over Europe to play friendlies ...?? really ....?? is it just me or is it just downright odd ...?? how long before football collapses unser a covid cloud again .....:shrug::shrug::shrug:

I 100% agree with this.

I also find it very odd that any older crusty needs to still go into pubs for a beer or 10.
