How about allowing people to make their own decision based on their circumstances? We are told we have to go to work. We can go into shops, both of which are at least as likely to pass infection. Public transport that's fine. Lower league clubs are going to go bust without crowds at least let people make their own choices with the necessary safeguards in place of course.

Be interesting to see how many people are still so keen on it when 2500 people watching the game live means no live domestic TV coverage. Don't get lucky and it will be a dodgy foreign stream, BBC Sussex or MOTD for you.

All I can say is that at the test event vs Chelsea it felt far safer than being in say, a supermarket.

I appreciate it's the transport to and from that's probably the main issue - concourse wasn't a problem whatsoever at 25% capacity.

Stewarding/transport/parking/distancing probably quite simple to monitor and maintain with a couple of thousand milling around, excited by the novelty.

10,000 regularly on a matchday might not be so jolly and compliant.

I understand the roolz say no signing, but I definitely heard some at the Chelsea friendly.

When you go to work or the shops are you surrounded by 5000+ people? Are you all huddled together for 90+ minutes?

No-one is asking for a return to full stadiums but there really is no evidence that a limited capacity will be harmful in outside arenas. At the moment a certain number of people are permitted to watch sport at certain level, yet if you support a team at a different level you cannot go. The level of competition should not be the determining factor in whether you can or cannot attend an event, but the safety of those permitted to attend. The rules as they stand are ridiculous, it is either safe to have limited attendances at football or it is not.

Where is the science here? You can watch a game in a cinema indoors but not outdoors at a stadium. It makes no sense, much like many of the decisions we are currently subject to.

Whilst we are fortunate in having all our games televised those in L2/3 and the NL who could really do with 1-2k through the doors are just bleeding cash at the moment while those in lower leagues are still able to generate some income from a few hundred fans. At the very least the NL teams should be able to host spectators.

The criteria should only be whether it is safe to do so, not the level of competition on the pitch.

that would be fine if everyone accepted responsibility of those decisions, and others accepted those people taking responsibility. they wont, and thousands will complain government didn't do enough if there is a outbreak linked back to a sporting event. people complain about allowing Liverpool v Madrid without evidence it caused any spread of infection.

This is the crazy part. You can sit down at a cinema and watch Brighton play, sat at social distances, but you can't do the same, outdoors at the Amex.

The problem with all of this is that the government decided to ignore science and 'experts' a long time ago, and their decision making is driven by ideology, commercial interests and good old fashioned instinctive reactions to 'things that happen'.

I think you are missing the point. This is not about individual choice, it is about the best interests of the community when faced with such a contagious virus. I am happy to listen to scientific advice on this issue.

Although I didn't mention it, it is quite obvious that fans need to get to the ground somehow.
I agree that 5000 can be socially distanced to a certain degree inside the ground but I said 5000+ and it seems some on here want way more than 5000, which would not be possible to social distance.

Can't come soon enough , football has to start letting supporters in to stadiums asap or it will not survive at lower levels pure and simple .

I had a carvery at Aberystwyth football club house last Sunday with 20 other diners from which you can see the whole pitch yet on the Saturday you were not allowed to watch the game outside ! Madness .

the scientist want a complete lockdown (as in no movement except to gather food) for 2-4 weeks to stop community spread, followed by strict border control/quarantine and local lockdowns to deal with any reinfection. meanwhile we have calls for football crowds and pubs to be open all night. there's some balance to be found that will never please everyone, and certainly isnt following science.
