The challenge is finding that proven top flight quality striker, when every other club also has extensive scouting, and their agent / loaning club creates an auction ... on the wages to be met and potentially a loan fee.

Its not true. For the vast majority, you are certainly right, but if you think long and hard about it there are certain posters that - while not saying it outright - would prefer the club to be this super-giant mega corporation owned by i.e. Saudi Inc. AZ Gull mentioned a few examples. Its not about having some critisism about what the club is trying to do, but about this small minority of people actively looking for ways to take a shit all over the club.

Sometimes fans of sports clubs etc. say "ok, but we all got in common that we love the club". This is never true. Some "supporters" have a wifebeater relation to their club - they might say they love it, but to them its really just a vehicle (or possesison) to bash at every single opportunity. Its frankly ridicilous and annoying: just like in the case of wifebeaters, its based on grandios self-perspectives and a desperate or pathological obession with finding imperfection elsewhere and "dealing" with that imperfection in a way that their perfect selves are entitled to.

Oh FFS....your ‘some’ (if it exists at all) is a ‘tiny minority’ in our case...........and I’d wager that even those - very few - who appear to be in your ‘be like Man City’ camp actually wouldn’t be if push came to shove. I don’t think you understand this club at all.

But it isn't if you get relegated as they'll all be off. Saying we're too good to go down, is I'm sure what Muff said and could've quite rightly believed this time last season.

Leeds, Villa, SU, Newcastle (yes I know, but they are still stronger), Palace, Stains. All have added quality/depth to their ranks. Us, West Ham and Burnely have stood still or have less overall squad depth.

You'd have to hope Fulham and WBA take 2 Berths, though maybe one won't? It could well be the case that 40 or 41 points isn't enough for 17th this season.

Our attacking play is better, our defending presently worse, I don't believe our full squad is better overall, even if our starting 11 is good and football at times breathtaking. We simply can't afford injuries in some areas, that are usually inevitable, more so in a congested season.

I fully expect we will there or there abouts in the relegation scrap. If we can survive again and the world goes back to normal, we may finally be well set to progress and move upwards towards that illusive top ten...... Expect this season will be treading water and still trying to hope for 3 worse teams and no injuries in key positions.

Pretty much how I see it. Praying for 17th this season to be honest. We WILL get injuries, especially this year. Just have to hope they are in positions where we have decent cover (CB basically)

Yet again, the club are muddying the waters of what a forward is.

Strikers or centre forwards are central and normally operate on the shoulder of the last man and in or around the 6 yard box. We have three players who can do this, Maupay clearly being the main man.

If you look at our 3-4-3 formation, you then have to consider players who can play either side of a striker in the attacking line. We then have more options than perhaps Dan menttioned:

To those claiming that Jahanbakhsh is not a forward, they are wrong. He scored his record braking amount of goals in the Eredivisie from the same position Salah plays for Liverpool in a front 3. Izquierdo played in Mane’s position in Belgium.

I’d still like a bit of height, power and experience in our forward line and there are a few Championship players or free agents who could fill that role on a short term basis before Andone possibly returns.

I understand it’s long term but surely any money spent in the current situation calls for it to be spent on keeping us in the division. Not to spend £10 mill on players only to send them back to their clubs. How does that help our finances in the current situation?

My understanding is that Lech Poznan wouldn't do a deal unless there was a loan back. Also, we're not paying the whole amount up front. There are always two parties in a negotiation, and you don't always get exactly what you want. If the likes of Bayern and Roma were in for these guys, I'm happy we're bringing them on board (even if slightly delayed).

As Andy Naylor has pointed out, it's actually not that long until the January window this season so there is still potential then.

It may not be long in time, but it is in games. There are 12 league games between now and the New Year, with the first game in 2021 being on January 2nd, and I'm not sure it would be possible for a club to get a player in, registered and eligible to play then.

So, it could well be game 18 of the season, just about half way, that we are able to add to our striking options if we don't hit the Championship up over the next 10 days.

We may well be fine - I'm not suggesting otherwise - but there's a fair way to travel before we can change things (Championship caveat aside).

B They might be better players in the New year. Meaning they are worth more money.
C It also convinces the players that have the shirt at the moment, they better be good. Or they are stuffed.
D Its quite unlikely that both players will be useless.
F So a good bit of business, one would think.

One other point. Its very likely to be wages would be the stumbling point. Rather than the fee involved.

It also keeps us sweet with their current club who may not sell till later otherwise leaving it open to other clubs coming in later.

But the current match day squad is bare in positions, with no decent cover or genuine like for like options- no matter how much gloss you try and add to it.

Just reeling off everything thats happened that everyone already knows about, shows a good command of his brief, but doesnt answer the real fundamental issues or the interviewers question.

Saying Ali J is a forward we believe in to get goals (when he isnt starting or more often not selected for over 2 years) is spin, Adding that Lamptey can chip in with the attacking threat is sweeping the lack of quality depth of proper strikers under the carpet, or trying to sugar coat the facts. We are all in on Maupay staying fit, suspension free and in form.

We failed to sign first team ready attacking targets (I get that it happens and that may not be our fault - but we did) and we are threadbare with quality cover at LWB and with genuine CF's - much less than most league competitors.

Since being at the Amex i can honestly say this window has been the most disappointing. I don't have a feel good factor. I was delighted to see a good clear out of deadwood this summer to give Potter a clean slate to start with. Sadly the reinforcements just haven't been.

So much talk of Lallana who i feel won't do anything. He has done it all and is collecting his last pay cheque. Enough said.

With the buzz of last season and with our exciting young players i thought for the first time we could nick top 12 this season. No chance of that. Another grind to stay up.
