Max Sanders was superb and I’m so pleased for him. CH took him up to Old Trafford in the cup and sat him on the bench but he didn’t get on sadly. Always loved watching him since he broke into the U23’s, you could see his quality then as a 17 year old

No, it wasn't PKE's first team, but they're a pretty solid sort of club, a squad without many real stars, so were never going to be a pushover unlike Lower League Pompey.

How lovely it is to see our young players come in and look high on quality and low on fear. I thought Sanders had an excellent game: it was notable how much he demanded the ball, and most of his passing wasn't too shabby either. Roberts also looked so cool and composed.

Remember when- centre halves aside- our youth team prospects consisted of players who'd make fifty odd appearances (starting or from the bench) in the third/ fourth tier, before leaving on a free to Swindon or Southend? Most of them wouldn't even get that far (hello Joe Gatting, Chris McPhee and Scott Ramsay). When we thought Jake Forster-Caskey was the next big thing? I'd bet almost any one of the ones who played tonight- including Jenks, Gwargis and Gyokeres as well as Roberts & Sanders- will go on to play at a higher level than JFC has. I don't mean to be disrespectful to JFC: but things are at a different level now.

Just because he has spent 16 months being taught how to play in a top level game by Potter and his team doesn't mean he was Messi in disguise and only the believers were right..

I've always said he had great technique and his attitude is perfect.

Certainly for me and I believe this goes for Icy Gull too, it was never like that.

I have always been 'fighting' against the 'not even a footballer' mentality.
Which as Hugo Rune has pointed out, got ever more snidey the longer his absence went on.

No amount of 'new country' 'new team' 'new league' from me, could be heard by those revving their engines desperate to drive him anywhere.

Even last week the quote I posted from GPott reads like what I've be ridiculed for saying.

Again as said I'm just happy the conversation has now moved onto a place where his position in the squad/team is a genuine talking point.

That is very much how I remember Icy's contributions too, but don't want to speak for him.

But let's not forget his performance at Bournemouth last season - truly woeful

I am being devils advocate and from a lot of peoples perspective he wasn't worth the money we spent and wasn't the finished footballer we expected at the time for 17m. So I can certainly understand where they were coming from. I hope he keeps improving because he looks like that goal scoring AM we need right now.

Not in Whitechapel
One of the most pleasing things about to day (imo at least) was 4 young players from Sussex playing.

It's obviously nice seeing anyone come through our youth team, but seeing 4 local lads play for us (on top of the 3 we already had) is excellent.

Just me and Icy Gull.

We got on early, fought off all comers and are now seemingly being shouted down by posters who ALWAYS believed.
:lolol:  :lolol:

Bless'em.

All good fun and very happy for the chap.

TBH I'd still like to see a a few performances at the highest level.
But at least that conversation can be had sensibly (well as sensibly as it gets round these parts)

But as said for the moment very happy that it turns out Ali is actually a footballer.

Huh.

What is this nonsense. You think you were the only one backing AJ?

With Muzza and Stephens (seemingly) gone, plus March, Connolly and Jahanbakhsh all playing well, who will the Albion fifth columnists hate now?

I can only see two faces on the dartboard. Step forward, Webster and Ryan.

It may have been a typographic error as the second half data summary showed us dribbling like teething toddlers.

We're just fine :lolol:

Noticed that too! I do hope no team ever figures out Gross’s cruyff turn move. Unbelievably successful at it for someone with little pace. Talk about under the radar- he’s been doing it for 3+ years!

I'm thinking maybe going for a member of the coaching staff just to give something new a try?

With the fake commentary off, I did hear someone gobbing off from the bench tonight

Stat Brother stood out as resilient and argued against the tide of the Board (including some mods) dismissing Jahanbakhsh as a non-footballer.

In fairness, it turns out Icy Gull was equally gutsy.
