Very little chance, unless Potter was doing some masterful bluffing on SSN this afternoon. Talking about effects of Covid on finances and 'improving what we've got'.

Started the summer thinking we should be after left back, goalkeeper, defensive mid, winger and a striker. Would settle for just a season loan of a striker now....

***nb I have NOT heard anything actually linking this guy to us***

Alex Telles - Brazilian LB/LWB

Porto reportedly want to sell him now as he's entering the last year of his contract & isn't planning to renew. Only £18.5m and just competition from Man U to see off, so pretty much a done deal (he's used to blue & white stripes already too) :)

With Lamptey terrorising down the right & this guy in the LWB slot, we wouldn't even need another striker [cough]

Skip to 1.15 for the action to really warm up:

I’m not sure if we’d be able to afford his salary sadly.

All rumours seem to have died down.

We don’t seem to be near to any deals?

Let’s hope some juicy rumours emerge this weekend. We could do with some hope.

What a thoroughly depressing article. All around are finding attacking options and our club have shifted from looking for striker to laying the groundwork for the "happy with what we have" PR bull$hit.

An injured Romanian, a non prolific Bundesliga 2 attacker who shows nothing that he'd cut it at PL level, a young rough diamond with hugely erratic form and Maupay.

If this truly is it, we deserve everything that's coming. And can have no complaints if we find ourselves facing Wycombe a year from now.

Will still support the lads,

Roll on this year's relegation scrap.

I think the critical issue is that no-one knows how long Covid will continue. With that amount of uncertainty over future revenues, clubs without mega-mega rich owners (prepared to lose hundreds of millions) have to be very careful. I'd much rather BHA play it safe. Others are in the same boat, whilst some seem unbelievably reckless....perhaps a few chickens will come home to roost as the season goes on. If it weren't for Covid, this season would probably be the one where we made significant strides towards mid-table mediocrity. In reality we are probably now looking at another season of consolidation, made more difficult by the ludicrous spending of the richer clubs. I definitely think there are three (probably at least five) worse teams than us, but we'll probably spend quite a bit of time within touching distance of the relegation zone.

The fear is that relegation this year will be financially devastating and that teams relegated run the risk of ending up like Wigan, Bolton or Charlton, these are the trickiest of time to navigate, prudence need to be balanced with doing what needs to be done to survive. I think in all likelihood that we will sign a striker whether that be on loan or a cheaper option but that marque signing might elude us.

We were prepared to spend £20mill+ on Nunez a few weeks ago, I doubt much has really changed since then. If one of the striker cluster that has been identified becomes available, at the right price, we will sign them. Better to play it down to the press than big it up. We are not just going to throw money at it until one sticks like Villa. Plenty of time left.

I know what you’re saying, but we need to hold back on this kind of thing until the window is concluded.

Historically we do a lot of business towards the end of the window, there is still a lot that can happen yet.

I honestly expect we may have to sell Bernardo or March to raise funds for a striker or a LWB.

I also think there is money to be made by moving Pröpper to Ajax.

He is not a player you’d want to lose but Molumby & Alzate have really impressed in the middle of the park whilst Bissouma became our No.1 midfielder last season and Stephens is always a solid option. We are well stocked in that position.

If we could get north of £15m for him, if it means grabbing the elusive Striker or someone like Sessegnon, I could wave goodbye without shedding a tear.

Not unexpected.

It is what it is.

Whilst there is no doubt a little money left in the kitty, 2 signings seems a stretch looking at the back of a beer mat figures, so I honestly expect we may have to sell Bernardo or March to raise funds for a striker or a LWB.

Loans could be do-able though.

Gone from genuine optimism we may get Barrios, Gonzalez, Nunez, Martinez to considering just Deeney on loan is better than nothing!!

So would I, I'd even take the 2 weeks quarantine after driving him there.

Potters comments about how important he is, suggests he staying.

Very much this. I just hope we can get a win tomorrow as with Man Utd and Everton coming up next, I'd hate to see the vitriol if we go into the Palace game having lost the first 4 matches, by which time the window will have closed too.
