That’s an easy one to answer although as a football fan you should already know. Brighton thought he would benefit from a season in the championship, just as we did for Matt Clarke. He is being developed by these loans to bring him to the point where he is ready to be considered for our first team. You have come on to a Brighton message board making ignorant digs at our club and it’s academy/player development structure. Every time you claim Ben was nothing before Leeds and Bielsa you are also being massively disrespectful to the player himself. Grow up.

I am sixty so the time for growing up is long past, sadly. Maybe like Tony Benn I am immaturing with age.

And I never said Ben White was "nothing" before he came to Leeds, just that he hadn't been blooded, and his time with us was transformational in both footballing and human terms.

Which it was. That was the point in the loan in the first place, I get that, and he is your player for as long as it lasts. But Bielsa and Leeds brought out the best in him because players develop and grow under the guidance of world class coaching, playing twice a week in a highly competitive league.

As for his loyalties, like every modern player he has none, it is just about money. Although maybe he will have learned under Bielsa that there is more to football than money. But the days of a one club centre back like Jack Charlton making 773 appearances for us have gone with the wind.

This is a pretty good website by the (admittedly) low standards of football fan forums, and it has some interesting posters who know the game very well and are insightful.

But like all of them it isn't a place that can accept forcefully expressed disagreement from the fans of rival clubs, so I will leave you to argue amongst yourselves.

I don't disagree with much of that, although saying he would have done equally well at Derby is counter factual.

What we do know is that he has developed to his full potential under Bielsa, and of course that was always the intention. It was interesting that Potter said that he trusted Bielsa to play him out of position, it indicates both that he was being closely monitored whilst under loan, but also the high regard in which your manager hold ours.

Bielsa makes average players good and good players great through world class coaching. It is what he has done for clubs and two national sides throughout a long career. and I don't really get why this should be even under discussion.

But then this is a fans forum for talking bo11ocks I suppose...

We don't know that he's been developed to his full potential. You think this is it, he's not going to get any better?

It's not under discussion if Bielsa improves players. What's under discussion is how much Bielsa has improved White and whether he has made him.

My contention is that based on everything we knew about White prior to his loan spell at Leeds he would have excelled at Derby(or any other club) too because that's exactly what he'd done every step of his career with us to that point. Bielsa,I'm sure, has improved him. If we thought that wasn't to be the case we wouldn't have sent him to you. And, based on Bielsa's history, there's a good chance that White has developed further than he would have under a different coach. But, we don't know that, and never can.

What we do know is that White has been a stand out player with the U-18's, the U-23's, Newport, Peterborough and now Leeds.

Have you seen [MENTION=3003]Starry[/MENTION] posts? He was on here when we were both in League One and is a welcome Leeds fan, although he disappeared for quite a few years. I’d be interested in his take on what you say about us being arrogant now. Personally I don’t see it, I’m just glad we have lasted three years. The first year was great, the end of last season just awful and for me anyway I have loved this season. I hope we kick on next season but totally accept that we might not. As long as the football is enjoyable I want to stay, if not I’ll be happy to drop a division.

I can't believe any Leeds supporter would call us arrogant. If you went back to NSC of three years I'd defy you to find anyone on here who thought that we'd be challenging for Europe then. You won't find anyone now, come to think of it.

I think there are a few now who are cautiously optimistic that we can reach the top half of the table - but they're by no means a big majority.

Your club had a young player complete a successful loan spell before returning to his parent club. It should be possible for you and fellow Leeds fans to be grateful to Brighton and move on. Your superiority complex and lack of self awareness was always going to irritate people on here. Get over yourselves and wish Ben well.

You're in an unfortunate position, that whilst you have come across in the main as a reasoned and eloquent poster (and happy to have you here), you're trying to single-handedly undo the work that plenty of your fellow fans have already done: you only need to skim particular social media sites for proof of that.

We're fairly tolerant of opposing fans on here (tbh having opposing fans visit the forum is a rarity now we are in the PL, it used to happen a fair bit when further down the pyramid), so largely the words used against the club may not be from your mouth/fingers, but from the other fans of the club.

In the comments below is an oft trotted justification for why he will go to Leeds. 'If he stays at Brighton, he won't be guaranteed first team football'. Hang on, I thought Leeds were going to storm the league and that they have the best manager in the world and better players than us. Why is he then not going to walk straight into our team? Maybe Leeds are not as good as they are making out...

We are beautifully average. Ranked around 42-48 in the last 50 years.

Yorkshire Post translates this as: 'his certainty that Leeds will be okay next season, no matter what'.

Brighton 'telling the world at every given opportunity that they plan to keep him'

Translates as 'maybe, and this seems less likely, Brighton will convince him to stay put'

With this standard of reprting (from a paper I normally respect) - no wonder many Leeds fans are confused/deluded`

The only time Graham Potter spoke of Ben White was when ASKED in press conferences.
