My point here is that £30m would be £10m more than has been paid previously for any English player with no EPL experience.

But with one years Premier League experience Webster is beginning to look like a bit of bargain.

Begging the obvious question:-

Why sell White now and not in 12 months time.?

Sold for £30m - a tidy profit.
Or
Plays out a season and sold for £60m - a tidy profit.
Or
Fails to gain a regular start and sold for £10m - a tidy profit.

With option 2 adding a considerable overall profit to the team, as it's hard to imagine a back 3 of Webster, Dunk and White playing in a team with more than half an eye on relegation.

Whites value depends on how many clubs want him. I think we were the only club in for Webster, hence 20 million, if more had come in for him, he would have cost more.
If several were in for White, Chelsea, Arse, Liverpool, and Leeds:lolol: all of whom I have seen could have an interest, it could be quite an auction.

But the last thing 3 of those clubs need is a signing for the future.
2 can happily come back in a years time and afford the real deal.
One may or may not.
While the odd one out can't afford (a generous) 1/3 of their transfer budget and keep Bamford.

Are you a Leeds fan? You don’t seem to grasp business sense here (and we both agree Tony is a don with business). Again think about it:

- why would we sell for £30m? You keep on saying, or assume that’s enough, why? Are we desperate for money?

- why would we sell an asset who is under contract for that price, when his value could potentially double after 1 season? Or if he becomes a superstar even more?

- why is it in our interests to strengthen a relegation rival?

Now i want you to answer the above rather then just say "oh he was celebrating last night, so sorry boys he's going".

Are you a Leeds fan? You don’t seem to grasp business sense here (and we both agree Tony is a don with business). Again think about it:

Are you a Leeds fan? - Dumb question..

- why would we sell for £30m? - Thats a great profit for a player whose head may well have been turned by Leeds and who may not want to play for us anymore and who may be a disruptive personality in the dressing room.

You keep on saying, or assume that’s enough, why?- Question makes no sense.

Are we desperate for money? - With Covid and a probably minus 60% gate or possibly no attendances next season absolutely yes.

- why would we sell an asset who is under contract for that price, when his value could potentially double after 1 season? - Because the asset doesn't want to play for us. Because another club including a top 6 offers enough to get TB interested enough.

Or if he becomes a superstar even more? - What is your point?

- why is it in our interests to strengthen a relegation rival? - Perhaps they won't be a relegation rival? Perhaps they will. Doesn't matter whether they are or are not. If they are it means White isnt doing well!

I think your logic is quite muddled. Let’s break down and review the facts again:

- we don’t need to sell

- we have an asset potentially worth £30m. This asset is under contract to us, Why on earth would we sell now when that asset could double in price in a years time?

- why would we willingly strengthen a relegation rival?

I don’t see why you’re confused by these questions. As I see it there are only 2 conditions for Ben leaving us in this window:

1) a club makes a ludicrous offer, £50m +, which although not impossible, seems unlikely even for City as he’s untested in the PL

Or 2) Ben throws a wobbly and demands a move.

I don’t see 2) happening, 1) is slightly possible but not from Leeds that’s for sure.

I think there’s a lot of paper talk going on just because White is playing for a high profile club who have just won promotion.

If I was a Premier League club I’d be looking at Webster rather than White for the money being bandied about. He’s had a season of top level experience and is getting better and better. Let’s see if White can do as well as Webster against the likes of Vardy and Ings.

Like it or not Leeds and their players are going to attract more attention than us. Be nice if Webster stayed under the radar for a bit but smart clubs will be watching.

Steady improvement from Webster.

Other recent graduates from the Championship (Godfrey, Lewis, Aarons & Mings) haven't quite lived up to the hype around them. Whereas it feels as if Webster has been slightly below the radar. However, other teams will now be taking note of his progress. More good work by BHA.

Will be interesting to see how Ben White has progressed by the end of next season.

As will other young centre backs, learning their trade.

Will drop back to this conversation and say I told you so in a week or so.

Let it go Stewart. He’s a Brighton player and we aren’t selling him to dirty Leeds. He has two years left on his contract. There’s no need to sell him now although if he won’t sign a new contract, which will be offered, we’ll probably look to sell him in 12 months, but I doubt it will be to Dirty Leeds.

Coming from someone who cannot even remain civil and debate properly the irony of your comment is outstandingly funny!

The thing is, the word "debate" suggests that both sides are prepared to listen to the arguments and could, might, possibly, would change their minds. In a debate, youare seeking to make your point assuming the person you are debating with is prepared to hear a different opinion to their own. I don't think you will change your mind. You are totally locked in and listening to no one else in the face of so many people who are giving you very reasonable arguments.

Is it defo only 2 years left.? I remember he signed an extension a year ago

I have rather enjoyed myself questioning all the entitled all day. They are very desperate to sign an unknown quantity (Premier League) without thinking of all the other positions they're lacking but being superior in every way they know best. Re-affirms my dislike for all things Leeds and Yorkshire attitude. So hope they completely fail next season.
