Maybe, but I'm comparing him to Stephens and Propper here. Stephens has the odd pop from the edge of the box at a corner, but Propper will never shoot and always prefers a pass.

So comparatively, I still think he shoots more than them (but, yes, less than when he started)

He's averaging 0.8 SPG this season, Propper 0.9, Stephens 0.6.

We need upgrades for Propper and Stephens. A young Iniesta and a young Makalele would do. We also need another striker. Replace Webster with White, too many mistakrs.

1 upgrade will do for now, otherwise we might as well write off Molumby.

Ryan does not need replaced right now. I think a new striker is definitely required, perhaps a winger too if Ali j leaves, but I can't see where a new cm would fit into our squad. reckon Stephens will stick around as back up, propper is a great player but both him and ds have sorely underperformed on terms of goals for us, but I can't see either of them being moved on.

Wow. I guess that's a lesson in the difference between what you see and what actually happens. I genuinely can't remember the last time Propper had a shot

You aren't going to find a better keeper than Ryan for the wages Brighton pay! He looks iffy with the ball at his feet, particularly when playing those short passes to the edge of the box, or in the box from goal kicks. I wish he would stop that tappying it about nonsense. It has cost us a few times this season (and not just last night). But he is quality in all other respects. What I would like is to have Walton & Sanchez as his back-ups so it keeps the pressure on him. Button & Steele are nowhere good enough to put any pressure on him.

I am convinced that Biss is the midfield dynamo the OP is looking for. Get a defensive midfielder in to replace Stephens (who has to go) and let Biss roam. We have Molumby to add into the mix too.

Other than that we need a target frontman in the Bobby / Murray mould. Someone who can hold-up the ball but also has the pace to chase down balls played over the top if necessary. Someone like hmm Odsonne Edouard maybe? Difficult to know for sure because he plays in the micky mouse league north of the border but I have seen enough in old firm games to make me think he might just have it. Extremely versatile. Good hold-up player, good in the air and the pace to work the channels.

I'd argue that we're only one player from being a top 10 side, and that player is a goalscorer. And those strikers do come along - Vardy, Ings, Callum Wilson, Arnautovic, Josh King, Llorente, Ighalo, Deeney, Bony have all been bought for a modest fee yet gone on to be prolific in recent times.

Absolutely. They do come along. But for every one of them, there are a number of Joelinton or Locadia transfers, which do not work out. I'd actually say that Maupay has done pretty well this season considering it is his first in the Premier League, but we still need another striker option

To be fair to Button, I actually thought he did okay last season when he played while Ryan was on international duty. He's not as good as Krul but we were very fortunate to have such a good back up the first season up and he clearly didn't want to be back up anymore. Only time will tell if Walton is a better back up than Button/Steele but I think Sanchez should be looking for a Championship loan next season to develop further (not being our third choice)

Agree with the 3 or 4 players but Ryan sure as hell isnt one. Mate of mine been going to the games and he said Ryan is such a great talker and was far more vocal and organised than David De Gea was...!

He’s class. Don’t get the criticism one bit!

Especially since Potter demands that his goalkeepers are great with their feet. It allows the team to play according to his tactics without deploying three central defenders in most games. In Swansea he would use Nordfeldt instead of Mulder, despite the latter being the better keeper in the "traditional" sense.

I think Ryan is one of the best in the PL with his feet, ie he looked like Ronaldinho compared to Alisson yesterday.

If a really good keeper with really good feet randomly becomes available, I could see the club going for the opportunity, but most likely Ryan will be keeping the goal for the forseeable future.

As long as we sort out Back Up keeper I think we are ok in that position. We have Walton who will want game time. And we have Sanchez who could be a more than adequate 3rd choice. So goodbye Button & Steele.

I would focus our money on a Stephens replacement, a really proven 'tall' striker and another striker. Then put Glenn either on coaching or give him a final loan somewhere.

We have (apparently) £15m in the pot from Knocky plus what we sell Stephens for plus Tony's budget for next year. Easily done.

One big weakness for us is having a midfielder who can receive the ball under pressure from Dunk or Webster and do something with it. Bissouma is probably the best at doing that now, but both Propper and Stephens get caught a lot. It´s an extremely difficult skill but essential for the way we play. So along with a striker, this position is the one that needs attention IMO.

Edit: I forgot about Alzate. He has the potential to be that midfielder

I think he might well be. Great touch, comfortable receiving the ball on the turn, always seems to have time and can pick a pass. Got goals in him too, I reckon.

I also don't think hes the best with his feet and passing as some others in the league.

We seem to have been watching a different player for the last three years. Mat Ryan is excellent with his feet and I seem to remember that this was one of the reasons we identified him as a target in the first place. Were he to leave Brighton, I suspect strongly that it would be to go to a higher level, not lower. Yes, competition for any position would be good, but we have a top class keeper whose value has probably doubled in the time he has been with us. To identify him as a weakness is, in my view, very wide of the mark.

If you were to suggest three parts of our team which should be improved, GK would not be on my list.

We need a new left back before we need a new goalkeeper. No insult to Dan Burn who has done well but it's not his natural position and he's been a good stand-in rather than a proper long-term solution.

I don't understand why Bernardo doesn't get a run out ??? He is decent.

Bernardo

We have one sitting on the bench
I just can’t see why Burn gets in in front of Bernardo at leftback

Totally agree. Would love to see him get a start or at least more than a cameo appearance in the last few minutes. Impressed during the minutes we have seen him so far. But he needs some time on the pitch before next season!

I look at the Sheffield Utd line-up (currently 7th) and perhaps with the exception of Berge, can't see any obvious upgrades on what we already have
