Whatever you do, don't move to Portsmouth! What a dump. I moved here to be with my other half, and I can't wait to return to glorious East Sussex. If you really have lost your marbles and want to move to Hampshire, I can recommend. Portchester ( between Portsmuff and Fareham ). Castle street is quite affluent area and has a real ale type pub 'The Cormorant'
Lived in Southsea many years ago which wasn’t bad but agree that Pompey is not first choice!

I'd suggest Burwash but a) it's in Kent of course and b) there's enough incomers there already.

Are you whooshing me it’s very much in Sussex

It rains loads more than it does here, and is a long way from loads of places!

Stunning, though, and I can certainly see the attraction if you like peace and quiet and aren't bothered about trips into London and what-not (personally love day trips to London for a West end show or day out etc)

Rainy, yep, windy, yep - but there's no such thing as a bad weather, just the wrong coat - and when the sun shines there is nowhere better in England.

Everywhere in the whole world is equally far from everywhere else in the world. What you actually mean is Cornwall is far from loads of people!

There is also a lot of youthful vibrancy in places like Falmouth, St Ives, Truro - it's not the same as sleepy old Devon (the county where ambition goes to die).

Arundel, you have everything, trains to London, good roads out of, the Coast, a great town and The South Downs.

Another shout for somewhere in the Arundel vicinity.

Or, as one of those from the 'North' (read: the other side of the South Downs) then there's some lovely places on the outskirts of places like Petworth & Midhurst.

Fair enough, don't get me wrong, I love the place and its beautifully idyllic, I just personally love less rain, close to London, and Sussex is pretty beautiful too... Yes not quite Cornwall but still.. :D

Personally I'd be heading towards France - https://www.frenchconnections.co.uk/listing-forsale/245576 - plenty of value for money there. Appreciate it doesn't cover off the Southampton bit !

Maybe wise to wait a few months and find out the answer to this first

How much will I need to earn to qualify for residency in France post-Brexit?

https://www.thelocal.fr/20190320/how-much-will-i-need-to-earn-to-qualify-for-residency-in-france-post-brexit

After all, I would be surprised if it didn't have an effect on the options that may be open to him ???

You're getting as boring and repetitive as Plooks now. A completely non-political thread and you have the need to turn it in to one  well done

Simply pointing out that trying to move abroad without understanding the implications would probably not be a good idea. After all who in their right mind would dive into something as important as property purchasing without any understanding of the implications

£600K? Very nice problem to have. If OP can't find somewhere pretty superb in wherever they choose to live, then they're really not trying all that hard

That last pic..... Reminds me again how idyllic lockdown was. End of April we went surfing at Gwithian Towans, counted 9 other surfers on the entire St Ives bay from Hayle to Godrevy, plus 3 our 4 dog walkers, just stunning to have that huge beautiful expanse to ourselves.

Again in May half term when things had relaxed, hot and sunny would normally have been completly crowded, but perhaps a hundred or so people on the sands at low tide, very special

The new Lyminster bypass (construction starts in 2021) will be immediately next to the back garden of this property(Wolstanton)

I thought the price was cheap for what was on offer, and thought it worth sounding the agent about what the catch was, as we are thinking of moving to Arundel. The agent said that the previous buyer pulled out because his mortgage company withdrew the mortgage offer after finding out about the close vicinity of the new Lyminster bypass.

We are in the same boat but because of elderly family we don’t want to venture too far, so are looking at Hurst and Henfield. Would love to go to Dorset but holidaying there will just have to do.

Not to mention the fact it's already not in a great location, location, location.
