And what is she suggesting? It isn't going to get lower by itself. Either we have the status quote, where it will stay roughly the same (perhaps going up slightly as people start to ignore the rules, but also going down slightly as there are fewer people to infect) - or you would need even tighter lockdown measures, which would be very hard to enforce, to reduce it.

Or she doesn't understand R0?



Also worth noting that it will be very different in different places. It's likely been 5 or more in London as a result of the tube, etc. - though this will be reducing due to huge numbers already having been infected. In isolated rural communities it's likely always been very low.

Do you seriously think that list of the most eminent scientists and academics in the country would be swayed by his attendance or interest in their discussions?

I thought I'd explained it pretty well? She said they can't ease lockdown until R0 reduces further. The only way it will reduce further is by increasing the strictness of lockdown. Are they proposing to do that? No.

That is a good explanation. Let's not get too confident and rush into things, is a good approach too.

Whilst this is true, surely most people who work in offices CAN and should work from home. It's not offices that are the issue?

there's been much talked about positive move to work from home, but its been short period. do we know most have been able to, and is it productive? would it be on an ongoing basis? i wouldnt expect a many smaller businesses to have been able to change.

I can only speak from my own experience but I changed job at the beginning of March. My old manager insisted on being in the office except for perhaps once per month when she would let me work from home but would moan about it. There were all sorts of excuses but it basically boiled down to lack of trust / control.

In my new job (essentially the same job, different company), working from home 3-4 days per week was normal before the restrictions came into place and it's seen as a positive and the opportunity to give us more work/life balance. I think it works well, particularly for those of us with kids.

I do clearly need to spend less time on here though!

Well, given he is not a scientist and couldn't contribute, and as a political advisor, he is not allowed to feed information back from the meeting to the PM or Ministers, why do you think he was the first political advisor to attend SAGE meetings in it's entire history (20+ years)

If you look up the rules governing political advisors. I quoted them in an earlier post where I explained the difference between a government official and a political appointee but am on a phone and somewhat limited!
