Quality goalies didn’t appear the moment the PL was founded.

We also the best in Shilton, Clemence and Banks. Would’ve thrived in any era.

Absolutely. Not sure if you were there but we came up against Gordon West when we played Tranmere in 76--77. We were putting 4 past teams on a regular basis and Ward, Mellor, Horton et al must have been licking their lips at adding to their tally against cannon fodder in Rovers.

West must have been 18 stone - he was massive - and thwarted our numerous attempts to get past him. From memory, it took a Nobby pen to get us a 1-1 draw.

**** me. If any of you prats were behind the goal you’d have seen there was no way of saving that bullet.

This. I was pretty much directly in line (without the net the ball would have come more or less straight at me). I’m not sure I would have had time to move to stop it another 50 yards further on. Not a hope in hell Ryan should have got to it. Not a hope.

Grummitt and Corrigan at their peak maybe but not when they played for us, Moseley? No chance

Grummitt played for us in the third division, great keeper but not by current PL standards at the time he played for us. Corrigan was SOO slow to get down to low shots when he played for us, well past his peak

Don't agree at all re Grummitt. Corrigan and Moseley absolutely.

I think Ryan will be disappointed, in fact he showed it with his body language for about the next 5 minutes, slapping himself and banging his hands together.

Made some good saves as well though......

I was behind it and thought he could have done better. That ball could only go in one place and from that angle. He was disappointed.

Great strike though, and lets not forget made some good saves in the second half.

I would also add the bigger issue was the players switching off on the short corner.

We were horrible for that first 25 minutes......

If he had reactions fast enough to save that he’d be a Marvell super hero.

Not sure why he gets any stick at all as he has never really had a bad game. Really got PL keeper and if you want better go support one of the top 4 because the next level up is serious money and wages.

Don’t agree re Ryan, but otherwise do......def correct re the corner, should never have been free enough to pick up the ball, and shoot from there in the first place. Maupay also had two players to cover.....all a bit sleepy. Potter dropped Maupay more into midfield after 25 mins and we looked so much more solid, and had more width. Maupay had another great game, absolutely worked his nuts off.

I don't think the TV shows quite how fast that ball was moving. I didn't see it between the guy hitting it, and it almost breaking the net. Would have had to have been some save to stop that - can't blame Ryan.

Maupay's best game for some time I though, he's been really out of sorts as well. The goal gave him confidence.

I'm not a fan of either Webster or Schelotto, but both were fine today - Burn was just terrible.......

Am I the only one thinking that Ryan should have saved that? Pretty poor positioning given where the ball was on the pitch at the time Eriksen hit it. Or am I being too harsh?

NBS Sports called it the goal of the day. It was a wicked shot. Brilliant.

Can this thread be locked? The original post was from Tottenham away at the end of last season

Why ? It’s the thread the Ryan-haters use every time they think he ‘should of done better’.............without this we’ll just get a new thread.

Because everyone always thinks it’s about a game which has happened that day when this thread is ever on the first page. Either that or the title should be changed

On MOTD, a great reaction save from McBurnie.

Yes but for balance Keown queried why Ryan had no hands up at all. Having watched is many times now I'm give Maty a pass. What undoes him is the combination of pace and it looks like he's crucially unsighted by Murray's attempt to block.

No way any goalkeeper in the world would have saved that. Pinpoint accuracy/luck

Ryan is an excellent keeper - we're lucky to have him. Not many keepers would have saved that strike today. He's massively in credit in my book.
