A number of things came together (funding opportunities mostly) to make it viable. Those conditions have gone and it might never be considered again.

T'is a shame it all landed in the lap of someone completely incapable of not drawing an absolute frackin eyesore.

Weren't there a special hospital cancer unit as part of the hotel proposal?

Currently in the back of the East stand there's a medical imaging place of some sort isn't there? Assumed it would be that relocated and expanded. The cynic in me thought maybe the club hoped the proposal would get the nod by offering medical services which the council would be hard pressed to refuse.

I have my outline plans for Goldstone II as well . . . . 40 000 capacity, 10 000 standing in the North stand . . . . . . . short walk from Hove stn too don't you know.View attachment 120324

Just need to add Schelotto's 'tearing up the pitch' lines and that will be bang on. Good work.

There’s also a NHS physiotherapy suite. Both generating useful rental income for the club.

With limited access from the Falmer Road? No chance.

That would be an incredible windfall gain for the owner if it comes off. I’ve seen profits of £10m plus on gaining approval for a privately developed student accommodation block, in this case all for owning a field.

Oh a quick look at those planning applications mentioned in this post is interesting:

https://democracy.lewes-eastbourne....21700/Agenda/gvrN2bypf9Ao3SXRCc9hX2fUfL9e.pdf

That's the application to use Bennett's Field as a car park and it says it is only temporary. So is Bennett wanting to build student accommodation on the car park or would the proposed student accommodation be elsewhere?

*EDIT*

Rereading the Falmer Parish Council minutes it just says Matthew Bennett told BHA that he is going to do it and that BHA told Falmer Parish Council. No other details. Checked the Lewes council Planning Committee meetings from last few months and no application in yet so at this stage there are no other details unless Matthew Bennett posts on NSC!

Also whilst not directly related to Amex expansion I see the house that was by Falmer station has been demolished and the site cleared. Any NSC'ers know what is going there?

No surprise, it will be a privately owned student accommodation block. Developed and run by Teklon.

He is hemmed in by the Albion on two sides and a Railway line on another. Any access from the Falmer Road would be difficult if not impossible with the gradient and proximity to the roundabout. He would either need to build a bridge over the tracks or negotiate access with TB.
The loss of the field to us may be minimal because I have thought for a while that the old bus terminal above Bennetts next to P&R was under-utilised and could probably be reconfigured for parking.

That looks to be the site that BNthree was talking about, possibly, so not in the actual car park.

I know, this is entirely separate, just answering the question about the demolished house.

Bennett’s Field is south of the railway line, at the far NW extremity of the Albion site, the 1901 club parking.

I assume that’s where Matthew Bennett wants to build a student accommodation block.

But what would the gate be if ever we went down?

It might happen one day. Hopefully though not this year (everything is crossed for tomorrow)

Then the average attendance might go down to 27,000. Still one of the biggest crowds in that league.

The vast majority of people love going to the football no matter what league we are in.

There may be fans who will want a season ticket ticket even if we go down.

It will be the loss of almost all the 1901 club parking.

I agree, I wonder where he’ll gain road access?

Some might enjoy it more! Imagine going to every home league match knowing you’re in with a great chance of scoring and winning.

Our Championship attendances would be fine. If a few thousand JCL’s who got the Albion bug with the PL in sight, ditch us, others may take their seats one way or another.
