If he does, on his wages, paying it off would be an unlikely gesture. You're still missing the point. :lolol:

Maybe deliberately.

Even if his debt/wages came to £10m, it'd still be money well spent if it kept us up. And we know Tony likes a gamble.

......he'd fail the 'no dickheads' rule.

Would he ?

Was well thought of at Arsenal, many of the fans there were sorry to see him go. I've not seen him making waves at Chelsea, despite his frustration at a lack of game time. Where's the evidence of his dickheadedness ? Seems like a fairly low maintenance pro to me.

Aside from his gambling problem of course, but thats not part of the dickhead test.

Pretty much any top team in the world would take Giroud. We have absolutely no chance of landing him. I can't even dream on this one.

The crusties on here would remember England and Spurs striker Bobby Smith signing for BHA in the mid-60s when we were still bobbing around in the noddy leagues, and he was still only in his early 30s. So it CAN be done

I can't believe you've gone back 56 years for an example of a top player slumming it - that's 28 years before English top flight football was even invented.

His knees were gone when we took him on, anway.

As I posted elsewhere, Phil Stant is a more recent example of how an old fellah made an enormous contribution to Brighton's attack.

out of our price range

If you say we'll only pay max of £X per week wages because of some cap then maybe, but as Easy 10and others have alluded, If you do the maths in how much he'd actually cost in real terms for 6 months (probably somewhere circa 1.5-3 million) and considering what you're getting, It's not a huge outlay for someone who is not a punt at PL level, he's a proven top international striker.

The price mentioned in the Newcastle story is £3m, so you’re about right. Say 15% of an Adam Webster, if you want a comparison.

Can anyone one of you seriously see us even contacting Chelsea about him?

We’re just not in that league and I can’t see any ambition in this window that we want to be.

Don't disagree, bottom 5 budget equals bottoms five and sooner or later the luck will run out.

Making claims of top ten by TB was a bit premature when there's no intent to spend like a 10th placed club.
